Man Utd plotting to sell star to Chelsea and sign £80m-plus international
Manchester United could sell Kobe Maino to Chelsea in order to fund a deal for an exciting new midfielder in 2026.
Man United needs new signings
The Red Devils are preparing to face Bournemouth on Monday amid numerous concerns over Ruben Amorim’s availability.
Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt remain sidelined for the Cherries’ trip to Old Trafford, but striker Benjamin Sisko could feature after a foot injury.
There are still doubts over whether Noussair Mazraoui, Amad Diallo and Brian Mbeumou can feature before traveling to the Africa Cup of Nations, but Amorim hopes United can cope without them.
Mason Mount is among the players the Portuguese is sure to rely on, especially after he produced a man-of-the-match display at Molineux on Monday.
“He’s a very smart player,” Amorim said. “He’s a really technical player because sometimes being a technical player is not just about enjoying the ball – it’s about the quality of the pass, receiving the ball, how you receive the ball. In these things, he’s really smart.
He added: “He is able to balance our team well, so he is a very good player.”
INEOS wants to strengthen its manager’s squad in the upcoming transfer window while maintaining financial stability, and is now eyeing one of the Premier League’s rising stars.
The sale of Mainoo is set to fund the move to Wharton
Former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness told football Insider that he had heard United were swapping one player and one England international.
“I think it’s very unfair and I think Maino, look, he’s a wasted talent in that sense. I don’t think he, for some reason, hasn’t picked up [Ruben] Ain Amorim. He thinks it doesn’t fit the style.
“I think they have decided that Adam Wharton will be one of their targets and I think Maino could find himself reinventing himself at Chelsea.
“This is where I see the situation going and these are the whispers I’ve been hearing. I think it will be good for Maino. I think he needs to get out of there and move on.”
The Guardian has also confirmed United’s interest in Wharton, along with Liverpool and Real Madrid, with Crystal Palace set to demand “in excess of £80m”.
Wharton’s camp has made no secret of his desire to play Champions League football, with agent James Featherstone telling talkSPORT last week: “We have a plan. It’s not necessary to make it happen at the moment.
“He scored his goals in the game and in the season, so he has to do his job, and the rest will take care of itself in a very organized and calm way to ultimately maximize his talent.”
Manchester United could replace Amad and Mbeumo by signing ‘the best winger in the country’
