‘Chores? I don’t know them’: Australian woman discusses domestic help culture, flags lack of work-life balance in India

Australian woman, who lives in India, recently moved to Instagram to exchange her ideas on cultural differences between India and the West, especially those related to home culture and balance of work life. The woman, who was identified as Berri Steel, said that in India most families have home workers for domestic work.

“I am not cooking or clean in India. Home businesses? I don’t know them,” she said in her Instagram. “Most of the middle class of wealthy families in India have help at home. Most people have someone who cleans him, and perhaps washing and cooking them,” Steel said in the video.

She went to compare her life in India with the West, where people run cooking and other household chores along with full -time jobs. “I was like, that’s what we do in the West. We do everything ourselves with full -time jobs.”

Steel, a podcast producer for the profession, said the Indians also lack a balance between work and life and that her friends are receiving work calls in strange hours of today.

“Over time, I noticed that my friends get working calls at 9:30 pm, and there is no balance between work and life here. Expectations in corporate workers are so high that if you are single, you have no time to cook and clean.”

She also said that for the better or worse, the work is cheap in India, and therefore, it is logical that everyone has help at home. Near the end of her video clip, she said she was “ashamed” that she is enjoying not having to cook or clean daily in India.

It concluded it on the cultural differences between India and the West in the virus at any time. While some users agreed to their observations, others explained the reason for their preference to live in the West instead.
