Crawford Meets A Transformed Lomachenko In Bogotá

Terrence Crawford and two-time Olympic gold medalist Vasiliy Lomachenko pose for photos today at the 38th Annual World Boxing Organization Convention in Bogotá, Colombia. Interestingly, the 37-year-old retired Lomachenko (18-3, 12 KOs) looked almost as big as Crawford in terms of size.

Former three-division world champion Lomachenko has gained some size since his last fight against George Kambosos Jr. on May 12, 2024. Loma looked as good as ever in that fight, dominating Kambosos in an 11th round knockout in Perth, Australia.

In today’s photo, Lomachenko could pass for No. 28. It looks well-preserved, as if it’s resisting the passage of time.

Crawford sees new blame

Although Lomachenko officially retired on June 5, 2025, it is entirely possible that he could be tempted to return if he is offered a fight that motivates him. He lost his spark to keep fighting, so he hung up his gloves last summer.

Younger, fresher, and still dangerous

Loma is younger than the 38-year-old Crawford and showed better form in his last fight against former unified lightweight champion Kambosos than Budd did in his last win over Canelo Alvarez. One could argue that Crawford has lost from his game due to his age and inactivity more than Lomachenko.

The return battle that a Turk dreams of?

Lomachenko is still young enough to return to the ring if offered the right offer. It would be better for Turki Allalsheikh to bring Loma back to fight against one of the top fighters, like Naoya Inoue, Rafael Espinoza, Stephen Fulton, or Nick Ball. If Turk wants to bring back a retired fighter, Lomachenko should be a top priority. It would be interesting to see him in action rather than seeing some fighters who are over 40 years old.

Crawford knocked out undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo, beating him by 12-round unanimous decision on September 13, 2025, in Las Vegas. Compared to the performance Lomachenko had against Kambosos Jr. in 2024, Crawford’s win wasn’t all that impressive. He didn’t stay in the pocket and fight Canelo like Lomachenko did in his fight with George.
