Crystal Palace ready to loan out defender Chadi Riad
Crystal Palace are said to be willing to loan defender Shadi Riyad amid growing interest from Sheffield United, according to journalist Alan Nixon.
The 22-year-old centre-back, who arrived at Selhurst Park in 2024 for £14m, has struggled for regular minutes this season, prompting Palace to consider a temporary move aimed at helping him regain his fitness and confidence.
Riyad remains under contract with Palace until 2029, meaning the club still consider him a long-term asset.
However, with opportunities limited under manager Oliver Glasner, a loan spell is seen as the most beneficial next step in his development.
Crystal Palace is ready to release defender Shadi Riyad
Palace believe consistent football in the Championship can accelerate their progress far more effectively than sporadic appearances in the Premier League.
The Eagles have already undergone a major defensive restructuring this season, highlighted by the sale of Marc Guehi to Manchester City in a blockbuster transfer in January.
With further changes expected as Glasner reshapes the squad, Riyad has emerged as the next possible departure, although only on a temporary basis, unlike Guihi.
Meanwhile, Sheffield United appear to be the favorites to secure his signature for the remainder of the season.
The Blades desperately need reinforcements at the back as they attempt to climb away from the lower reaches of the Championship table.
Riyad could add defensive depth and quality to Sheffield United

Riyad is seen as a player who can add composure and quality ball-playing to Wilder’s backline.
His experience at La Liga and Premier League level, coupled with his potential, makes him an attractive short-term solution as Sheffield United try to stabilize their season.
For Palace, allowing Riyad to leave on loan provides him with an opportunity to get the consistent playing time he was denied in London.
With the club entering a transitional phase under Glasner, the Moroccan defender’s temporary exit could also help organize the team as they prepare for a bigger role next season.
Sources: Aston Villa and Crystal Palace are monitoring the in-form playmaker in the Premier League
