Former state governor Andrew Como seemed to be joking on Saturday when he said that he would move to Florida if parliament member Zahran Mamdani won the New York City mayor’s race.

Komo lost to Mamdani in the democratic preliminary elections, but he plans to challenge him as an independent in the general elections. The line, which was delivered at a breakfast in Hamptons with the political informed, sparked laughter, but also highlighted the increasing discomfort on the political trend of the city.

“Everything or nothing,” said Como said, according to those present at this event.

This observation came during a special gathering hosted by businessman John Katsmsidis at 75 M in Southampton. Catsimatidis, a guest of the Republican Party and a radio host, is also the owner of the supermarket chains GRIStedes and D’Agostino, which can be directly affected by a Mamdani proposal to create government -run groceries.

The list of guests included the Chairman of the RXR Really Bruce Mosler, Ambassador George Tsunis, and former Komo assistant Melissa Derosa. One of the attendees described the line as a “Wow” moment. Many guests said that he caught the room’s attention.

Como, Rich Azobardi, defended a comment on the New York Post.

“The ruler Como will never give in New York,” he said. “The line has emphasized the risks in these elections and the risk of a 33 -year -old socialist election to lead the city.”

Como has repeatedly referred to Mamdani as “the child” during the event. Mamdani’s proposal to freeze the rent called as a “death penalty” for real estate owners and housing supplies, and rejected his platform as “unrealistic posters.”

Mamdani’s campaign did not respond to the comment request.

Komo also took the goal of Mayor Eric Adams, who also runs as an independent, saying: “We have not had a qualified mayor since Bloomberg.” Adams accused his inability to focus, citing the ongoing investigations and fears of morals.

In response to a question about the criticism of the New York Post, Adams replied, “If he is serious about moving to Florida, he must move forward. He has already spent three weekends in Hamptons.”

The race, which also includes the Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa, has become one of the most unconventional municipal competitions in modern memory.
