Bluesky rolls out massive revamp to policies and Community Guidelines

After two years of launch, the Social Network BluesKY reviews community guidelines and other policies, and requests notes from its users on some changes. The startup, a competitor to X, threads, and open networks like Mastodon, says its new policies aim to provide improved clarity and more details about user safety procedures and the appeal process.
The motivation behind many changes by new global regulations, including the UK’s online safety law (OSA), the European Union Digital Services Law (DSA), and the United States Law.
Some changes are an effort by Blues to form its community and the behavior of its users on purpose, which led them to be more beautiful and more respectful to others. This comes after a series of complaints and media articles that indicate that society tends towards self -interest, sharing bad news, and the absence of humor and diversity of thought.
For organizational compliance, Bluesky service conditions have been updated to comply with the laws and regulations of online safety and to require ensuring age when necessary. For example, in July, the online safety law in the UK began to require platforms that contain adults content to verify age, which means that Bluesky users in the country either wipe their face or download their identifiers or enter a payment card to use the site.
The process of complaints and appeal is now more detailed.
One of the prominent updates refers to the “unofficial dispute resolution”, as Bluesky agrees to speak on the phone with a user about his conflict before any formal dispute. “We believe that most conflicts can be informally resolved,” Blues notes.
This is completely different from what is happening in the largest social networks, such as Facebook and Instagram, where users are banned without any understanding of what they did wrong and there is no way to communicate with the company.

Bluesky also says she will allow users to dissolve certain claims to damage in court, rather than arbitration. This is also somewhat unusual for technology companies that often prefer to mediate disputes outside the courts.
However, Bluesky users may be more interested in the proposed changes in community guidelines, which are invited to make notes. (Changes enter into force on October 15, 2025, after the completion of the feedback period.)
These revised guidelines are organized on four principles: safety first, respect others, be authentic, and follow the rules. These general principles aim to direct Bluesky baptism decisions on whether or removed the content, if the company is able to suspend or block your account, or in some cases, reports are submitted to the application of the law.
Bluesky rules include many proper instinct policies about not promoting violence or harm (including self -harm and animal abuse); Not publishing illegal content or sexually puts the palace (including in playing roles); Not allowing harmful actions such as doxxing and other non -investment personal data exchange; And not spreading random mail or malignant content, among other things.
It embraces the provisions of the press, sarcasm and mockery. For example, journalists participating in “realistic reports” can spread criminal acts, violence, mental health, online safety, and other topics, such as viral challenges via online challenges that may be harmful.
Bluesky may face troubles are the nuances of what is considered a “threat”, “harm” or “abuse”.
Politics states that users must “respect others” by not publishing, strengthening or encouraging “hatred, harassment or bullying.” For example, the deep policy and the exploited content prohibit “inciting discrimination or hatred”, which means posts that attack individuals or groups based on “race, race, religion, sexual identity, sexual inclination, deficit or other protected features.”
This is an area in which Bluesky has fallen before, when, in the previous days, moderation decisions decided to have a relationship with black society, and in another case, when he angered her from the anger of transit society.
Recently, the company is facing a violent reaction that it has become very left -wing tendencies, as users were quick to criticize, postpartum responses, and where society generally lacks humor.
The original idea behind Bluesky was providing users with tools to create the society they want, including not only the reporting and tools of reporting, but also things like subscriber ban lists or moderate services that are in line with your values. However, Bluesky users still prefer the same application to deal with a lot of moderation, and the silence against the trust and safety section when they made the decisions they did not agree to.
In addition, Bluesky’s privacy policy and copyright policy to comply with global laws on user rights, transfer, retained, removal procedures, transparency reports and more. Both enter into force on September 15, 2025, and there is no reactions for either of them.
