Despite paying $900M in tariffs, Apple’s Tim Cook isn’t announcing price increases — yet

The company said that the increased customs tariff cost Apple 900 million dollars in the last quarter of life, when it announced the results of the first steel quarter.

Although nearly a billion dollars of the government’s additional fees is not sneezed, Apple is so huge that one of the analysts in the quarterly profit call described the result as amazingly low.

Apple reported the revenues of the first quarter of 95.4 billion dollars. Even as the customs tariff is paid, it is still a $ 1.65 profit profit, which is a record in the first quarter.

The big question on the minds of technology users – as well as many technological startups that prefer to equip employees using MacS – is if Cook expects a continuous tariff, which increases Apple prices.

At least for the next quarter, unlikely. When he was explicitly asked about the increase in prices caused by customs tariffs, Cook said that “there is nothing to announce at this time.”

He explained that Apple is now importing a larger part of iPhone from India, instead of China, with a decrease in the tariff. As for MACS, a larger part of these come from Vietnam. He added that the devices produced in China are largely sent to Apple customers outside the United States.

He said that the biggest successes in the customs tariffs for Apple were with Applecare and accessories companies – also known as spare parts to fix a broken device covered under its guarantee program, and things like iPhone. For those companies, the tariff rate was “at least 145 %”.

It does not mean that the costs will increase to cover that strike, however, too.

But he made it clear that Apple was not hit as much as it could have been. It was largely because its products “including iPhone, Mac, iPad, Apple Watch and Vision Pro” are not currently subject to “global mutual tariff” while the Trade Department is conducting an investigation on how definitions affect the imports of semiconductors and products that they use.

Do consumers and startups should buy their MacS devices now at a later time? Cook says that Apple does what it can to keep the costs under selection, including the effect on the customs tariff policy itself.

“It is clear that we are very involved in the customs tariff discussions. We believe in participation and we will continue to participate. In the pricing piece, we have nothing to announce today,” Cook said.
