NATO Secretary -General Mark Roti Donald Trump praised Europe “heavily pushing” to increase defensive spending, in a special message that the American president shared on the social media platform.
“Donald, we have truly prompted an important moment for America, Europe, and the world,” Root wrote before the NATO summit that begins on Tuesday, with a reference to the US president’s demands that all allies commit to raising defensive spending to 5 percent of GDP.
He added, according to the screenshot of his text message, which Trump published to the truth on Tuesday: “You will achieve something that an American president cannot accomplish for decades,” he added.
“It was not easy, but we were all signed on 5 percent!” Root books. “Europe will pay in a big way, as it should, and it will be your victory.”
Rot also praised Trump, “a decisive work in Iran, that was really unusual, and something that no one dared to do.”
NATO official confirmed the originality of the message.
Screen footage appeared on Truth Social, where the American president flew to The Hague to get the NATO summit that starts on Tuesday evening.
Trump had asked all coalition members to spend 5 percent of GDP to defend over the next decade or risk losing US security guarantees that supported the continent’s security for decades.
While many European allies, including Germany, France and the United Kingdom, have committed to meeting the new goal of Trump, Spain has obtained the cancellation of the subscription, which increased the possibility of a conflict in the meeting.
On Tuesday, Rot sought to reassure the allies that as long as they greatly increase their defensive spending, Trump will not pull us guarantees.
“There is a complete commitment by the American president … to NATO,” Root said before the event. “However, it comes with an expectation to deal with this.
He added: “My message to my European colleagues is: stop worrying a lot … stop running about the anxiety about the United States. They are with us.”
To meet Trump’s demands, Rutte has developed a Allied plan to customize 3.5 percent of GDP for basic military spending and 1.5 percent on areas such as the Internet and infrastructure by 2035, to fill the gaps in European capabilities.
German Chancellor Friedrich Mirz said that the huge defense spending plan that was submitted to the Council of Ministers on Tuesday showed that the largest country in Europe was a “strong and reliable” partner.
“We have shown our allies we can rely on us,” he said to the German MPP before leaving to The Hague. “Germany has returned to the international theater.”
Germany plans to increase military spending by more than two thirds of the next four years, reaching 3.5 percent of GDP in basic military spending in 2029, faster than France and the United Kingdom.
But Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez refused to adhere to the total goal of 5 percent and obtained the cancellation of the subscription by pledging to meet the goal of NATO capabilities in what is estimated to be less expensive.
Other capitals also requested the same “flexibility” that Root Madrid gave, which increased the risk that the summit ended in the event of a decline and provokes Trump’s anger over what the European allies seen on the American fugitives.
