Disney removes DEI terms from 2025 annual business report SEC filing

Disney removed the terms “diversity” and “DEI” from its annual business report for the first time in five years Thursday morning.

In the company’s 2025 Form 10-K filed after its last meeting in the fourth quarter, the words “diversity,” “inclusion,” “DEI,” or “diversity, equity, and inclusion” appeared zero times. While the term “property rights” appears about 130 times, it has only been used in a financial context.

By contrast, the company’s 2024 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission included a dedicated section on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).

“Our DEI goals are to build and support teams that reflect the lived experiences of our audiences, while recruiting and supporting a diverse range of voices in our creative and production teams,” the 2024 report said.

Initiatives within the DEI division included programs to engage “creative executives from underrepresented backgrounds” and “more than 100 employee-led groups that represent and support the diverse communities that make up our global workforce.”

Earlier this year, Disney also removed two of its DEI programs, “Reimagine Tomorrow” and “The Disney Look,” from its 2024 SEC 10-K report. “Reimagine Tomorrow” came under scrutiny after a 2022 meeting hosted by the program that included a Disney executive promoting her “not-so-secret lesbian agenda.”

“In my little pocket of Proud Family Disney TVA, the showrunners have been very welcoming. … Our leadership there has been very welcoming to my not-at-all-secret gay agenda. … They’re going hard. … I don’t have to be afraid to kiss these two characters in the background. I was just, where I can, adding the weirdness,” executive producer LaToya Ruffino said at the time.

Despite Disney’s shift away from DEI initiatives, corporate shareholders voted to continue the company’s participation in the Human Rights Campaign’s (HRC) Corporate Equality Index in March.

The HRC is described as “a national benchmark on corporate policies, practices and benefits relevant to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBT) employees.” Disney recently received a top 100 rating for this year’s index.

Business Insider also reported last month that Disney hosted its first “Global Belonging Week,” which included several references to “belonging” and “inclusion” without including the word “diversity.”
