Vasu Murthy, SVP and Chief Product Officer at Cohesity – Interview Series

Vasu M motthy is SVP and a chief product official in CohetHITY, which brings more than 25 years of the experience of the institution’s software through data security, protection and analyzes. Before joining the cohesion, play leadership roles in Rubrik, Oracle and Datascale, which contributes to the growth of products and innovation on a large scale.

The cohesion is the pioneer in the safety of data that works with artificial intelligence materials. More than 13600 clients from the institution’s institutions, including more than 85 from Fortune 100 and nearly 70 % of 500 Global 500, depend on cohesion to enhance their flexibility while providing GEN AI visions of their huge quantities of data. It has been formed from a mixture of cohesion with Enterprise data protection work in Veritas, and the company’s solutions secure and protect local data, in the cloud, and on the edge

She participated in the establishment of Datascale, which was later obtained by Oracle. What are the lessons of your start starting trip that still directs decision -making today?

Finding the suitability of the product market was our primary goal in the early stages of Datascaler. Although we have many enthusiastic possibilities for the product, enthusiasm has not always been translated into a repetitive state of use. The power to ask the correct questions. If all you ask is, “What do you want?” Or “Will you use this?” , People are often the ideal mindset, thinking about what they want to use or need in an ideal world, and does not always reflect what they need in their daily reality.

If there is a really important thing for the customer, they are likely to do it already, most likely not efficiently or enjoyable. They may use a problematic product that they do not like, spend more money, or handle things manually and wish they can restore time. The best questions to be asked are: “What do you do today are difficult?” Or “What will save you time or money?” When you start with the right questions, you reveal problems worth solving.

What prompted your decision to move from a giant like Oracle to a rapidly pace world from Rubrik and cohesion later?

I think about my career as a series of tasks. Red Hoffman is called “transformational tours” in his book, the alliance. The typical task for me lasts from 2 to 3 years and ends with a specific result of work, then it is time to work on something new. While I was in Oracle, I received a project that has become a three -year task. Once finished, I asked, “What next?” And they said, “Something bigger!” So I collected a team and started the next task. Repeat that same course, and every time, the challenge grew.

At the end of my third mission in Oracle, I was yearning for something in the pace and perspective of high -growth starting, which prompted me to Rubrik. After Rubrik’s general subscription, I spent some time to think about what was after that, and started joining a team that represents an exciting challenge, which entered my role in cohesion.

What are the unique opportunities that I saw in the cohesion that convinced you that this is the next next chapter in your career?

The recent acquisition of Enterprise data protection work is exactly the type of project I was looking for. The opportunity to play a major role in integrating companies with a smooth transition fee for the large customer base is a challenge and a fee. I am honored to contribute to the formation of culture and influence the development of products and make this transformation successful for our employees and customers.

I joined the cohesion immediately before Veritas acquired. What is your first focus with CPO entering this high -risk?

For CPO, understanding the mentality of customers and employees is less important than understanding the product and the market. Our customers are international, and our people have experienced different experiences. Reaching a message through them with each of them is very important.

In addition to communication, my maximum priority is to increase the frequency of innovation that we offer to our customers, and to gain the right to continue to expand the fingerprint. There is an opportunity to direct our customers to the future of data safety and AI.

Coordination has a strong vision of Amnesty International. How do you think of artificial intelligence as a product as a compact capacity?

The cohesion extends from artificial intelligence in all aspects – from discovering abnormal cases and classifying data to help customers accelerate and enhance electronic recovery. With hundreds of Exabytes from data under our management, there is a great opportunity to cancel the AI visions that AI moved from all over the platform.

The cohesion was built from A to Z as a platform, which makes us unique in this market. It is designed to support multiple applications from the beginning, and cohesion has a strong position in many data use cases. Customers drive us to enter their data into our basic system, giving us a strong opportunity to build and provide applications over it.

How to tools like Gaia firmly redefine how institutions interact with their data?

80 % of the Foundation’s data is not organized and is difficult to manage or analyze traditionally, and the IQ of Tuwaidi has provided opportunities to extract ideas and value from it.

To take advantage of the non -structured data, it must be collected from a variety of sources, and clean it to ensure that it does not contain special and unwanted data, and is provided in unnoticed views of rating and other ways to extract visions. Even when data is available, it takes a great effort to build Amnesty International’s infrastructure to provide visions.

The cohesion platform is already gathered and data securing from all sites, and we also built Gaia, which is a full rag application to derive visions of data. This allows users to interact with their data using the natural language, create valuable visions, and unify the company’s knowledge smoothly across different types of data.

What are the most exciting cases of customer use you have seen so far to search the conversation and discover the proceedings?

There is a lot of data all over the world so that many customers do not know what they have. The ability to open it and take advantage of more information is very strong for business. One of the aspects I find in particular is the concept of data sovereignty. In the geopolitical climate today, the two countries are increasingly concerned about whether the data stored within its borders gives their citizens control. The main question, especially with artificial intelligence, is whether these artificial intelligence services are hosting in the cloud. People are concerned about whether they can inquire about their data and who can access it.

The cohesion is highlighted in positions like this because it provides a solution by enabling local data management. With cohesion, customers do not need to transfer their data to the cloud or concern about the entities they run in other countries. The growing anxiety about data sovereignty and “data attractiveness” means that more institutions want to maintain local things, and we can provide this solution exactly, and work with our hardware partners and NVIDIA.

How does the alignment via the product, design and documents-especially when the experiences of Amnesty International are launched?

The company’s success depends on all jobs that work in harmony – not only the product, design and documents. Ideas can come from anywhere and when people feel hearing, they feel a feeling of ownership that pays the best result.

It is important to include all stakeholders early, listen to them, and ensure that they all have an opinion on the result. Product teams must be coordinated in good ideas and helping their priorities, designers need to maintain customer experience in the foreground, and documentation teams need to focus on reducing the time you spend in documents by working with designers, and providing instructions in the line as necessary. Amnesty International has a major role in developing and presenting this experience.

What frameworks help you set their priorities between customer pain points, visual innovation, and technical debts?

It is useful to start from the first principles when setting priorities and forming our approach. The frameworks can be useful in connecting it, especially when it is good alignment. However, I think most of the products can be generally classified into three types.

First, there are new products with a few customers, where innovation should be the main focus. Then, you have the basic products that are bread and butter. Innovation is important here, but the treatment of customer pain should be a priority. Finally, you have a firm mature long -term products. In this case, the focus is transmitted to managing clients and technical debts.

What are your goals for the portfolio of cohesion products over the next 12 to 18 months?

We have found a lot that suits the work of protecting institutions in Vertias since the acquisition. It is the fastest in which I saw two wings of the producer gather together. In the latest Feritas repetition, they converted backup solution into a set of microscopic services inside the containers. On the contrary, the cohesion began as a container application platform based on a flexible data layer. For this reason, Veritas services can be dropped on the cohesion platform, and things work smoothly because the data platform works with both.

Over the next 12 to 18 months, we want to support our work burden, data security and artificial intelligence services are common for all of our customers. We also build a smooth upgrade path for all customers to reach a future proof platform for their data.

A particularly excited product is Recoveryagement, a new Cyberic AI’s synchronization solution. The first new offer of joint development efforts of cohesion and Veritas, it provides customers with easy preparation for cyber restoration, testing and automation to enhance security positions, increase confidence in the response to accidents, and prove compliance.

What advice do you give to the other CPO that moves in this scene dominated by artificial intelligence?

People feel the immediate need to integrate artificial intelligence into applications. This is often in the form of making workflow easier and helping people be more productive. Although this is useful for customers, it is unlikely to push customers more to improve the gradual productivity.

A true synthesis of artificial intelligence requires rethinking the work that is fully moved by the work of artificial intelligence. Technology develops quickly and will become more valuable with improved accuracy of artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence can be great for natural linguistic reactions and some planning, and the basic logic still requires a lot of validation, monitoring, errors and scaffolding. Although the applications driven by artificial intelligence will improve over time, there are money that can be gained in AI and data infrastructure.

Thank you for the wonderful interview, the readers who want to know more must visit the cohesion.
