Egg prices will remain elevated as Easter approaches, AG Sec. Rollins says

US Minister of Agriculture Brock Rollins warned that the price of eggs will remain high, especially because we are near holidays that are largely dependent on the product, Easter and Easter.

Rollins, who is addressing the White House journalists on Tuesday, said the prices were “reserve”

“We go to the Easter season. This is always the highest price for eggs,” said Rollins, who set a billion -dollar strategy “five sides” to address the egg crisis.

Last month, Rollins announced its plan to reduce the increasing number of pathogenic bird influenza (HPAI), or bird flu, which started in 2022, and since then the herds have been destroyed throughout the country and created a significant shortage of American egg supply.

The severity of the case caused them to look at the Ministry of Justice enforcement to the reason for the high prices, including whether egg producers conspired to artificially amplify them by curbing supplies. Wall Street Journal.

The government agency plans for Invest an additional $ 500 million In biological security measures, $ 400 million of financial relief for affected farmers and $ 100 million to vaccine research. The department is also looking to find a way to reduce organizational burdens and explore temporary import options.

While farmers told Fox Business that this is an important step in solving this crisis, they say it will take some time to find out any major impact. Companies still impose the limits of purchase on the products as the shelves remain empty and the prices rise. These prices, which reach new records in 2025, will not be reduced any time as well.

Burnet Nelson, an economist at the American Farm Office Corporation, said on Tuesday that the effects of inflation and bird flu have caused more than 350 % egg prices for each scale compared to this time last year.

“Unlike other products, in many applications like bread, eggs do not have good alternatives,” Nelson said. “It is also a healthy source – it is usually the most cost protein, which makes it desirable even if the prices rise. This demand that does not change relatively on eggs means that the width factors can have a significant effect on egg prices.”

In January, egg prices rose, according to the consumer price index of the Ministry of Labor.

Nelson said that the outbreak of the disease affected more than 166 million birds, including 127 million eggs, since 2022, which led to a loss in an average of 42.3 million egg layers per year. This is equivalent to about 11 % of the average annual stock of 5 years from 383 million chickens since the outbreak of the outbreak, according to Nelson.

In February alone, about 12 million birds, mostly layers, have led to the total number of birds affected so far in 2025 to more than 35 million egg prices.

Nelson said that it may take up to a year for a farm to complete the cleaning and raise new chicks to the point that they are ready to lay eggs.

“This compensation does not cover the costs during the time when the farm is going without income. In addition to the economic loss, the death of a full herd, sometimes millions of birds, from bird flu is an experience of shocking the farm families,” he added.
