Exclusive: Check out the early-stage CGI used in Captain America: Brave New World

The digital field of the visual impact company shared an exclusive clip with digital trends that display the work that went to make one of the most central scenes in Captain America: a new brave world. Within more than eight minutes, the scene showcases Captain America (Anthony Makki) and Falcon (Danny Ramirez) opposed to a battle on the Pacific Ocean between us and the Japanese forces that can lead to a full war.

But what makes the scene really unique is that it is almost completely CGI. “There were a lot of shots as they seized Anthony Makki on all these wires. But by the time it was over, all of that was CG,” said the former supervisor to direct digital trends.

In Previsualization (Previs), we get a good overview in CGI early stage they used to build the entire scene from the zero point, including the huge open ocean setting. Ward said that the biggest challenge in the scene did not create such a big space. The speed that all characters and objects were traveling.

“The biggest challenge in this scene was the speed with which everything moves,” said Ward. “We had 600 mph missiles that fly across the air over the open environment that we had to build from scratch. You have to create the camera in a way that looked like a cap that flew 600 miles per hour.

The creation of the characters was not the only challenge

The creation of clouds was amazingly a huge task for the team. The digital field has created its cloud shading tool to help produce appropriate sizes, shading, materials, shadows, and different levels of the ostrich that we see in real clouds. The team even four to six cloud shows on top of each other to give each cloud varying level of brightness and depth, as we see in real clouds.

Light and shade were another great focus for the digital field. Staying on a reflector surface like water means that the team needs to be re -created the way in which the sun’s rays are accurately reflected on the ocean. They also needed to create shades to help give the scene a realistic look, so the team was keen to pay attention to each frame that involves a plane or character that rises across the air so that they can create a shadow that is thrown on the ocean below.

He said: “I was with DD for five years, and this is the biggest and longest sequence I worked on at all.
