Exploring Aberdeen, Europe’s oil capital, as President Trump visits Scotland

President Trump visits Scotland this weekend, spends time in two of his golf clubs, and attend a tape of a new session in one of them. European Commission President Ursula von der Lynn and British Prime Minister Kiir Starmer are also scheduled to meet in Aberdeen.

Aberdeen, known as the city of granite from the locally quarry stone used in many of its finest buildings, built its oil and gas economy, although it is now a city in a transitional stage.

Upon his arrival on Friday, Trump repeated his criticism of renewable energy. “Stop windmills. You are destroying your countries. I really mean it. It is very sad. President Trump’s opposition to renewable energy projects was documented in Aberdeen. He previously fought and lost a lengthy battle in the court to prevent the construction of a wind farm that is not far from the coastal line at its golf course.

He claimed that the eleven turbines would spoil the opinion from the ties, but in 2019, a Scottish court ruled against it and ordered the Trump International Golf Company in Scotland limited to pay the legal bills of the Scottish government as part of the ruling.
