Far-left activist org targets Charlie Kirk on George Floyd’s birthday at Minnesota campus

A far-left activist organization with a history of causing unrest against Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Israel is set to host an event next week on a college campus that disparages Charlie Kirk and demands that George Floyd be celebrated instead.

“The federal government has decided to celebrate Charlie Kirk Memorial Day on George Floyd’s birthday (October 14),” University of Minnesota Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) chapter Posted on Facebook.

“Instead of celebrating a white supremacist, join us in marching to celebrate George Floyd’s 51st birthday and continue to tell a UMN official that white supremacy is not allowed on campus.”

Flyers for the event were seen on campus and Published on X By Alpha News Editor Antoni Zhukovsky. The title of the post read: “The True Legacy of Charlie Kirk.”

The SPD has been active so far this year in organizing counter-protests, including in July when demonstrators clashed with conservatives at a Turning Point USA event in Tampa Bay, Florida. Fox News Digital reported.

In January, Fox News Digital reported An SDS-related protest at a Turning Point USA event involving a women’s rights spokesperson at the University of Washington devolved into chaos when demonstrators began banging on the windows of the classroom in which the event was being held, shattering one window.

A noise was thrown into the building, the pulling of the fire alarm led to several moments of confusion and the eventual evacuation of the building, although no fire was visible, shortly after.

The Minnesota SDS chapter’s website, which does not appear to have been updated since 2016, describes the SDS as an “organization of progressive youth” that seeks to “create a sustainable community of educational and political concerns; a community that brings together liberals, radicals, activists, scholars, students, and workers.”

Posts this year on the group’s Facebook page include instructions on how to identify and report ICE agents, mourn “genocide” in Palestine, picket with a truckers union, and organize an Independence Day event called “F- The Four.”

Fox News Digital has reached out to SDS at UMN for comment.

A University of Minnesota spokesperson told Fox News Digital that SDS “is not affiliated with the university and this is not an official university event.”

“As a public institution, the University is an open, public space that provides reasonable access to spaces on campus that are open to the public, subject to reasonable time, place and manner restrictions. College campuses have become an arena for anti-conservative rage since the assassination of Charlie Kirk last month, which has spilled over to faculty members on several occasions as professors were ultimately fired from their jobs for excusing Kirk’s killing.

Protesters have disrupted vigils and memorials for Kirk across the country, including at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in September where a mural honoring Kirk was defaced with paint, Fox News Digital reported.

In September, the US Senate passed a resolution declaring October 14, 2025, Kirk’s birthday., As a national day of remembrance.
