FBI drops probe of Kraken founder Jesse Powell, returns devices

When the Federal agents raided the home of the founder of Kaken Jesse Powell two years ago, the Ministry of Justice was in the midst of a comprehensive legal campaign against the cryptocurrency industry. However, the raid had nothing to do with how to operate Powell to exchange it for encryption, but instead stems from an administrative conflict with a non -profit arts institution. The Ministry of Justice has now brought down the investigation and returned dozens of laptops and mobile phones seized from the Powell’s house – but the questions about the reason for the agency’s followers are still strongly, and how the news of the raid leaked to the correspondents in New York Times.

Powell is a well -known character in the encryption industry. Besides Building Krakeen, an early exchange in the coded currency on his way to the public, Powell is famous for his explicit political views, which he often shares on social media. The following year, Times Breaking news about how the FBI searched the Powell’s house as part of an investigation into allegations that the Kraken founder had “penetrated and quickly arranged for profit.”

Despite the dramatic description, the facts turned to be more famous. The documents in a civil case submitted by Powell versus a non -profit, known as Verge, indicate that the conflict that turned into a Slack and Google account.

In the case, which was submitted last year in the state court, Powell says he had not penetrated or chased anyone, or cut off the accounts. Instead, it is claimed that the CEOs of Verge conspired to remove it from the painting, and that they quietly put the name of a new field and created new business accounts before doing this. Powell founded Verge in 2008 to support the arts in Sacramento, where he lived for many years.

Now, the documents submitted by Powell this week reveal that the Ministry of Justice has completely dropped the investigation, and returned its mobile phones and laptops. The deposits add that the returned devices contain information related to the Verge that proves the Powell account for the correct events.

In the email statement to luckPowell expressed her satisfaction that the investigation has ended and said he intended to continue his civil lawsuit against Ferraj’s board members.

“The FBI raid on my home was both personal and professional. It is still shocking that the raid was dependent on the Verge Art Center that is baseless. I knew that I had not made any mistake, and a discovery in my defamation against Verge was not explained that this could not be religion.”

In the last court file, Powell also claims that the Verge board members who sought to remove it failed to deliver the main documents during the discovery process. This is a serious claim, especially with regard to a member of the Board of Directors, who also works as a Verge lawyer.

In response to an email about Powell’s allegations, Caningham refused to comment.

After the investigation of the Ministry of Justice ended, Powell’s lawyer, Brandon Fox, received the so -called “deviation letter”, saying that the investigation had been closed. Fox says he sought the letter as a way to compensate for the damage to Powell, and the ability of Krakin to work in the financial industry with a higher organization.

The Ministry of Justice refused to comment on the message, or whether the agency was aware of how the details of the investigations leak New York Times In the first place.

As for Verge, which has been supported by Powell over the years with technical support and more than a million dollars of personal donations, there is still a player in the art scene in Sacramento, despite continuous litigation.
