Vietnam prepared to crack down on Chinese trade to avoid Trump tariffs

Vietnam is said to be ready to eliminate Chinese goods that are shipped to the United States through its territory to avoid paralyzing American definitions.

This show, which was mentioned in Reuters at the beginning, came as senior American officials – including White House Trade Adviser Peter Navarro – raised concerns about Chinese goods that are sent to America with “made in Vietnam” stickers that attract fewer duties.

Vietnam advanced for the local weeks that had been hoping that the Trump administration would have taken a benign look at the huge trade surplus with America. Instead, he was hit with a 46 % tariff as part of Trump’s “Liberation Day”.

While the customs tariff was suspended for a period of 90 days, the two countries agreed to start talks after a meeting on Wednesday between the Vietnamese Prime Minister and the American Trade Representative.

Vietnam, which relies on export, hopes to reduce duties to a range from 22 % to 28 %, if not less, according to three people who have knowledge of the issue.

Upon announcing the start of commercial talks with the United States on Thursday, the Vietnam government said it would end on “commercial fraud”, although it was not clear.

Many international companies have implemented the “China in addition to one” policy to create factories in Vietnam to reduce exposure to Beijing.

The Vietnam government office, a form of coordinating its ministries, held an emergency meeting with government commercial experts on April 3, hours after Trump announced the definitions. The goal was to address Washington’s concerns about stealing alleged intellectual property and transportation violations, according to a person who was briefed on the meeting.

At the meeting, officials of the Ministry of Trade and Customs were asked to tighten the controls and were given for two weeks to devise a plan to inhibit the illegal transport, which is when one country sends goods to a nation facing a tariff less than a third country, the product is reformulated to it without there being an additional value.

There are many goods that have been exported to the West Chinese inputs, and Chinese companies have also created the country’s factories to serve American customers. In many cases, Vietnamese workers treat goods, which are legally shipped to the United States under the “made in Vietnam” sign.

US officials claimed that China is using Vietnam as a channel for a lesser tariff for goods that do not have a large intuitive participation.

Vietnam is also implemented by more strict measures on sensitive goods flowing across its territory from the United States to China. The country intends to tighten controls on the export of double use goods such as semiconductors, which can be used for civil and military purposes, according to a decree project reviewed by Reuters.

The document said that the main commercial partners asked Hanoi to “reduce the possibility of transferring these source technologies to the third countries without the approval of the exporting state.”
