Ford recalls over 600K vehicles for seatbelt and camera safety problems

Hundreds of thousands of Ford vehicles have been recalled in the United States due to seat belt and rearview camera problems, regulators said Friday.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said in a notice Friday that 332,778 Mustangs from the 2015-2017 model years have been recalled because water and road salts can corrode the front seat belt pretensioner cables.
NHTSA warns that a corroded cable can break, which could prevent the seat belt from properly restraining the occupant and increase the risk of injury during a collision.

Meanwhile, 291,901 F-250, F-350 and F-450 high-performance trucks from model years 2020-2022 are affected by the camera view issue, according to the auto regulator.

The 360-degree camera system may not display the rearview image correctly in certain lighting conditions, which may also increase the risk of an accident, NHTSA said.

For the rear visibility issue, dealers will update the ICU software at no cost to owners. Letters to notify owners of safety issue starting October 20. Another letter will be sent when final treatment is available, which is expected around March 2026.

Ford recalls 312,000 trucks and SUVs due to risk of brake failure, which increases the risk of collisions
For a seat belt issue, dealers will inspect and replace both front seat belt pretensioner assemblies, as necessary. Dealers will remove parts of the carpet and underlayment that connect to the cables, and repairs will also be free.
Temporary letters warning owners of the safety risks are expected to be mailed this month. Additional letters will be sent once final treatment is available, which is expected to be in January 2026.
Ford told FOX Business that the quality of its vehicles and the safety of its customers is “critical.”
“The number of recalled vehicles reflects our extensive strategy to quickly find and fix hardware and software issues and go the extra mile to help protect customers,” the company said.
Ford said it has doubled its team of safety and technical experts in the past two years.
“We can find problems that exist in previous model years, including those that were not even reported,” the company continued. “We will not compromise our responsibility to all our customers, not just those who buy new cars.”

However, this is just the latest in a series of recalls issued by Ford.
In July, Ford launched a recall of more than 694,000 Bronco Sport and Escape vehicles that could suffer fuel leaks inside engine compartments due to a faulty part, potentially posing a fire risk. A few days before that, Ford launched I remember More than 850,000 Ford and Lincoln vehicles were sold separately.
Weeks before these recalls, the company experienced a software issue that led to the recall of more than 200,000 vehicles.
