Former LA deputy mayor will plead guilty to making fake bomb threat at City Hall

The Ministry of Justice said on Thursday that a former assistant to Los Angeles Karen Bass, who served as deputy mayor of the Public Safety, agreed to acknowledge the threat of the city hall last year.
Brian Williams, 61, from Pasadina, agreed to acknowledge guilt in one group of “information related to fire and explosives”, which carries a sentence of up to 10 years in prison.
“In the era of hot political discourse, which sometimes escalated to violence, we cannot allow public officials to threats.” “My office will continue his efforts to maintain the safety of the public, including those who violate their duty to support the law.”

Federal prosecutors said that the threat took place on October 3, 2024 during a virtual meeting with Williams and others regarding his duties. During the call, Williams used the Google Voice app on its personal mobile phone to make a call on its city’s mobile phone.
Then he left the meeting and invited the Chief of Staff of the Los Angeles Police Administration, where he declared that he had just received a call on his mobile phone issued by the city from an unknown man who threatened to bomb the Los Angeles city hall.
Ten minutes after the call, Williams wrote on Al -Jahir and many high -ranking city officials at the mayor’s office and falsely said, “I threatened the bombs: I received a phone call to my cell in my city at 10:48 am this morning. I immediately called the Chief of Staff LAPD, and they will send a number of officers to conduct a building for the building and determine whether anyone else has received a threat. ”
Investigators decided that Williams did not receive a call and did not receive the bombing himself. Federal public prosecutors indicated that Williams had never intended to implement the threat.

LAPD responded to the city hall to search for any suspicious devices. No one was found, the prosecutors said.
Williams described the threatened invitation that he claimed to the police and showed them a received call record that appeared as a ban on his mobile phone issued by the city.
This record of calls was the invitation that Williams put on himself from the Google Voice app on his personal mobile phone, the investigators decided.
Then Williams Pass and other city officials wrote.
“At this time, we do not need to evacuate the building, I meet with threat management officers during the next ten minutes,” he wrote. “In light of Jewish holidays, we take this topic seriously. I will keep you aware.”
