Macron says France and the UK will ‘save Europe’ even though Brexit was all about Britain leaving the EU

On Tuesday, French President Emmanuel Macron urged Britain to adhere to its neighbors despite its exit from the European Union, saying that France and the United Kingdom “will save Europe” by standing for democracy, law and the international order in a dangerous world.
On a government visit that confuses a royal monitor with difficult political talks about Ukraine and immigration, Macron said that Europe should strengthen its economy and defenses and reduce its dependence “on both the United States and China.”
The three -day Macron trip, at the invitation of King Charles III, is the first government visit to the United Kingdom by the head of state to the European Union since Britain left the European Union, and a symbol of the UK government’s desire to reset relations with the bloc after Britain left the European Union in 2020.
Macron addressed the members of both the British Parliament Councils at the royal exhibition decorated with the building. He said that the two countries represent a “global system based on law, justice and respect for regional integrity, which is being attacked today on a daily basis.”
“The United Kingdom and France must again show the world that our alliance can make a big difference,” Macron said, adding, “We will save Europe with our example and solidarity.”
He said that although Britain has left the European Union, “the UK cannot stay on the margin. Because defense and security, competitiveness, democracy – the essence of our identity – are linked throughout Europe as a continent.”
Poetry and politics
The French President and his wife, Brigitte Macron, were dealt with the full power of the British festive magic, which is far from cold relations in 2022, when the beloved secretary at the time Liz Toss said that the “jury outside” said about whether Macron is a friend or enemy.
Macrine was received at the Rav Northwat air base in London by Prince William and his wife Catherine – wearing a dress from the French design house Christian Dior – before King Charles and Queen Camilla in Windsor, west of London, met him. They were moved to the Royal Royal Castle headquarters, approximately 1000 years old, in horse -drawn vehicles, across the streets that were skipped in Jacks Union and French three -color marks.
The king and the queen hosted a banquet for Macron at Windsor Castle on Tuesday evening, with 160 guests, including politicians, diplomats and celebrities such as Mick Jagger and Elon John. Summer vegetables and chicken were served with asparagus and snowfall, along with champagne and cocktail immersed in the jinn called L’entente, after “Entente Cordiale” between Britain and France in 1904.
Kamurc, Charles is expected to be above politics, but he talked about the support of Britain and France give Ukraine “in defense of our common values”, noting the challenge of “irregular immigration via the English channel” and said that the two countries face “complex threats, emitting from multiple directions.
Charles said: “As friends and as allies, we face them together,” Charles said.
New tactics to stop boats
Politics will occupy the lead position on Wednesday, when Macron sits for talks with UK Prime Minister Kiir Starmer on migration, defense and investment – including 12.5 % of the French Energy Company EDF at a new nuclear power plant planned for East England.
Macron also came with a confusing cultural gift: an agreement to send Bayu fabric to Britain for the first time in more than 900 years. The 70 -meter (230 -feet) fabric will be shown that shows the invasion of Norman in England in 1066 at the British Museum from September 2026 to July 2027.
On Wednesday’s talks and the UK summit on Thursday, Macron and Starmer will discuss ways to prevent immigrants from crossing the English channel in small boats and trying to enhance post -shooting security plans for Ukraine, despite the lack of inflammation in the United States clearly of the idea and Russia refused to stop the neighbor on its neighbor.
Britain receives fewer seekers of asylum from the countries of the Mediterranean, but thousands of immigrants every year use Northern France as a launching point to reach the United Kingdom, either by storage in trucks or-after disruption on this road-in small boats across one of the most freight lanes in the world.
The UK has entered into a series of deals with France over the years to increase beach patrols and exchange intelligence in an attempt to disrupt smuggling gangs.
It only had a limited effect. About 37,000 people crossing the English channel were discovered in small boats in 2024, and more than 20,000 people crossed in the first six months of 2025, an increase of about 50 % of the same period last year. Dozens of people died in an attempt to cross.
British officials were pushing for the French police to intervene more strongly to stop the boats, and welcomed the officers who cut the rubber monkeys with knives in recent days.
France is also studying a proposal in the UK to obtain a “one, one” deal that would see France regain some immigrants who have arrived in Britain, in exchange for the United Kingdom accepting some of France.
Macron said that the leaders will try to “reform today what a burden on the two countries.”
He said: “France and the United Kingdom bears a shared responsibility for treating irregular immigration with humanity, solidarity and fairness.”
Maintain Ukraine in focus
Starmer and Makkon worked closely to support Ukraine, although they have taken contradictory approaches to US President Donald Trump, with Macron more ready to challenge the American President than Starmer Electricals.
Britain and France have led efforts to form an international peacekeeping power for Ukraine to enhance the ceasefire in the future with European forces, equipment and US security guarantees.
Trump has shown little enthusiasm for the idea, however, the ceasefire remains a short time. British officials say the idea of ”the coalition from the wishing” is alive and in good health, with Macron and Starmer joined an international video conference on Thursday to discuss planning this force.
Macron said that the coalition was a sign that “the Europeans would never abandon Ukraine – never.”
