Navarro touts Trump pausing higher tariffs as ‘art of the reciprocal trade deal’

Peter Navarro, the White House chief trade consultant, joins the money to explain president Donald Trump’s systematic tariff strategy.
On Wednesday, President Donald Trump announced a temporary stop of 90 days for his effective “mutual” definition to allow negotiations to move forward in commercial partners who have not yet enjoyed, and he is one of his main advisers who described as showing the progress made in bringing in other countries to the table.
Peter Navarro, the White House chief trade consultant, appeared on “earning money with Charles Payne” for Fox Business, after the announcement and said that a temporary stop will save time to negotiate new deals.
“This is one of the greatest days in the American economic history that we went through,” Navarro said. “I think we will call it” the art of mutual commercial deal. “I will tell you, all the nervous nels in Wall Street who are trying to constantly undermine the president’s strength to negotiate.”
Navarro said: “What have we come here? We are now on a 10 % global tariff while negotiating over the next ninety days with all these countries that came to us,” Navarro said. He added that the task “in these negotiations is to reduce our trade deficit significantly, settle the stadium, get rid of all tariff teams, and get rid of all other barriers.”

Navarro wrote earlier this week in an article published in The Financial Times, “This is not negotiations”, and this, “for the United States, is a national emergency caused by the trade deficit caused by a false system.”
In the interview on Wednesday, Navarro said that the mutual definitions – which the White House initially said was based on tariff rates, other countries, commercial barriers and currency policies, but it was ultimately dependent on the size of the bilateral trade deficit – in the end to other countries calling for improving the conditions of trade.
“We have put there a set of mutual tariffs that reflect the overwhelming trade deficit that we have with these countries,” Navarro said on Wednesday. “I said at the beginning, no negotiations-not that, it is a state of national emergency-but we will listen. What we heard immediately was beautiful, these countries want to come to us.

The “Money earning” host told Charles Pine Navarro how on Friday, he suggested in a post on X that to calm the markets that the Trump administration needed to show the movement on the tax reduction package, it announces at least one introductory deal and the Treasury Secretary Scott Payet took a more prominent role in the messages.
He explained that the matter seemed to be Navarro and the Minister of Trade, Howard Lottenic, who were “wandering on the side of public relations” for tariff plans with Bessnt now “in the driver’s seat” to lead commercial policy messages.

Navarro replied, saying that Pine should not “believe everything you read in fake news.” He also explained in the interview that the Trump team is compatible internally and that each of them brings their features and ideas to discuss the White House policy.
“[Steve] Bannon said once during the first period, I am the virtual strategy, in some way. If they do not want to cooperate, they get the definitions. “If they collaborate, we talk to them, I mean it is a beautiful thing. If you fall behind the scenes and already sit in some of these meetings, we have really got smart people, each with a relative feature of their own. We all coexist, we all have great ideas,” Navarro said.
“All I said is, this is not negotiations, it is a state of national emergency, the president will speak to anyone, then we love what we heard. All this is consistent.” “It is a state of national emergency, let’s not lose sight of that.”

Trump’s move on Wednesday depends on the highest “mutual” definitions of the countries looking for negotiations with the United States for 90 days, when a 10 % lower rate is applied.
Other definitions of the sector will remain in effect, as well as the China tariff that has been increased to 125 %.
