From ‘lazy bachelors’ to viral stars: Noida flatmates redeem themselves with a Diwali glow up

Two housemates from Noida, who became the face of ‘Bachelor Diwali energy’ for their lackluster festive decor, have now embraced the spirit of the season – transforming their once dim balcony into a dazzling display of lights.
Kulwant Singh and his roommate Yageshwar, residing in a high-rise in Noida, went viral earlier this week after local vlogger Karun Lakshya (@yourmaddyrider) posted a video showing their balcony — lit by just a single string of green light amid rows of brightly glowing apartments.
The clip is entitled “Ek aalsi insaan ki kahani while preparing for Diwali” (“The story of a lazy man preparing for Diwali”), went viral on Instagram and X, garnering over 23 million views and turning the duo into an internet sensation overnight.
Accidental fame
In the video, Maddie can be heard laughing as he approached the dark balcony, joking, “Ke raha hai, bhai main nahi laga raha. Bhad mein jai.” (“I’m not doing that. Go to hell.”) The landlord must have said.
Social media users were quick to pile on the jokes. Some called the single light strand “simplicity in its purest form”, while others called it “the true spirit of broke bachelors during Diwali”.
The meeting
Driven by curiosity to meet the men behind the spreading balcony, Maddy later tracks down the apartment and meets Kulwant and Yageshwar. The two explained that their balcony was crowded with plants, and did not leave much room for decorations. Yageshwar admitted that he was planning to decorate more elaborately, but changed his mind once the video went viral. Maddie laughs, “Main pehle hi jaanta tha bachelor hoga.” (“I knew single people should live here.”)
Before leaving, Kulwant promised to restore his reputation – a promise he quickly fulfilled.
Noida’s great glow
In a subsequent video that went viral again, a neighbor filmed Kulwant installing multiple rows of yellow lights, eventually illuminating the infamous balcony. “Ab iss bande ko akal aayi hai” (“Now this guy makes sense”), the neighbor joked in the background.
The balcony, once ridiculed for its austerity, is now glowing brightly – a perfect transformation for Diwali, which social media users have hailed as “the most salutary end to the trolling saga”.
What started as a light catch ended in laughter, community spirit, and a porch that finally matched the festive cheer of her neighbors.
