Gas tax funds for Olympic VIP lanes spark outrage among California GOP

California Republicans expressed their anger this week due to a plan to transfer at least $ 18 million from the country’s highest gas tax towards the “VIP Corridors” on the highways of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.

The Senate of the Senate Budget Committee in the state said that California is right to prepare for the world that is close to the second largest city in America, but the use of basic gas tax revenues directed to an individual project is the wrong step-and it seems that this procedure has been presented in haste.

“The reshaping of the corridors will not change the infrastructure at all. The infrastructure will be completely the same when it is done before it begins – and gas tax money aims to infrastructure improvements; new infrastructure; infrastructure repair, and this is not what they do here.”

“I have no problem helping La with the logistics services for the Olympics, but I do not think that the state should pay for it, regardless of where it comes,” Niello said, saying that the loan is preferred to finance taxpayers.

He expected a loan to be easily paid from the financial surprise that the region is preparing to welcome.

“The biggest issue may be the lack of transparency in our budget process. This issue has just appeared when the budget was presented … and it appears like this,” Nilo added.

California gas taxes are the highest in the country, where Illinois and Pennsylvania were martyred at the top three behind them, and the Republicans from Sacramento cited a study that showed a rating of the 49th Golden State in the effectiveness of cost and the state of infrastructure for highways.

Nilo and others suggested that given the California classification, these revenues should only be spent on improving the state’s infrastructure. He pointed out that the number of $ 18 million can grow to 38 million dollars due to a separate ruling.

The NEWSOM Administration returned to the idea that spending was misleading.

The Deputy Financial Director HD Palmer suggested that it is just a small part of a huge annual investment that has been converted into Caltrans and the government highway system.

Palmer said that the “Games Path Network” aims to create mirrors what the UK did for the London 2012 Olympics.

“When we are talking about VIP corridors, we are not talking about Limos Stretch here. We are talking about the ability to transfer teams, coaches, players and people who participate in the Olympic Games from their base to their places efficiently throughout the La Basin.”

It has been mocked that the critics of this step prefer to miss the men’s basketball team in the potential United States “the final of the gold medal, because they are wonderful with them stuck in 110”.

Palmer added that millions of allocated will have $ 5 billion, and said that the current country’s budget is directed to the infrastructure in general, adding that Nilo is a “great man”, regardless of any dispute.

He also said that the July 1 in the gas tax has nothing to do with this or any other budget step, because the increase is “ministerial” based on how the tax is calculated under the current law.

There is a similar preparation in other states, including New Jersey, where you are my God. The Christie was praised to oversee the decrease in gas tax mostly due to the legal accounts that involve the goals of the revenues and the like. Palmer was not inspired by this comparison.

The leader of the Senate minority in California, Brian Jones, R. San Diego, was not convinced.

“While the residents of California are forced to pay more in the gas pump on July 1, democratic politicians convert these additional tax dollars into the Olympic elites around a driver around Los Angeles,” he said.

“This is exactly what the mistake is in Sacramento,” Jones said.

“Instead of repairing our roads or providing relief to troubled families, the wealthy political class finds new ways to reward the perpetrators while the California residents work on the bill. They raise gas prices so that the dignitaries can ride for free.”

California is one of several states with a history of relatively bad ways, similar to the “Pothole-Vania” or “Washboard” in the urban parts of New York State.
