Gene Hackman estate auctions late actor’s artwork, Golden Globe trophies

A collection of Gene Hackman’s artwork and personal trophies will go up for auction in November, nine months after the late actor’s death.

Bonhams International Auction House has acquired more than 400 items from Hackman’s estate, including his own drawings and film memorabilia.

The “deeply personal” collection also includes a number of awards, including a Golden Globe for best performance for Hackman for his role as the eccentric patriarch in “The Royal Tenenbaums.”

The gilt metal ball cast on a marble base is valued at $3,000 to $5,000. Additionally, Hackman’s Golden Globe for Best Performance for 1992’s Unforgiven is also up for auction.

“The Gene Hackman Collection: A Life in Art” offers buyers “a rare window into the mind of an instinctive and highly disciplined artist,” according to Bonhams. A series of three single-owner auctions will be hosted via a live sale and two online auctions next month.

Gene Hackman’s Santa Fe estate could generate big money

Prospective buyers have the opportunity to bid on pieces created by the “Heartbreakers” actor, including still drawings, self-portraits and handwritten notes bearing Hackman’s signature.

Richard Diebenkorn’s fine artwork is valued at more than $300,000, while Milton Avery’s “Figure on the Pavement” will be offered for sale at $700,000. Wassily Kandinsky’s work is expected to fetch up to $15,000.

Hackman’s personalized stainless steel “Pepsi” quartz wristwatch is expected to go for $600 to $800, and an Everett Raymond Kinstler portrait of the late star will go for $2,000.

Annotated books from his library, texts and posters will also be offered in live and online auctions. Hackman continued his love of drawing after leaving Hollywood behind and immersed himself in the culture of Santa Fe.

Santa Fe Film Commissioner Jennifer LaBar Tapia previously told Fox News Digital that the “Superman” star supports the community and the arts.

Gene Hackman is an icon, as all movie fans know. “But having Gene Hackman as the neighbor here, he was just a guy in town,” she said. “He was very friendly. He and his wife were deeply woven into our community. She was a business owner. He was on the board of our Georgia O’Keeffe Museum.”

“He invested in a few restaurants here in Santa Fe, so he was very much a foodie. He was an artist and an author. So, his time in Santa Fe was actually towards the end of his career as Gene Hackman, the actor we already knew. But we had the privilege of getting to know him as an author, artist and foodie.”
