German bakery major Harry-Brot gets OK to buy Rewe plant

The German bakery group Harry-Burut obtained the approval of the competition officials to purchase a factory from the grocery grocery.
Harry-BROT got Bergkirchen Bakery Glockeenbrot from RIWE for an amount that has not been revealed. A spokesman for 320 employees on the site told nearly 320 employees on the site to Harry Brut Just food.
In its statement, the Federal Cartel Office in Germany, the Bundesartelem, said that the deal “will only lead to minor competitive changes to the other market participants” in the country’s bakery sector.
Glockenbrot, which has been part of RIWE since 1986, produced special bread and baked goods in two sites-one of them in Bergograne and the other in Frankfurt.
Before concluding a Bergkirchen deal to Harry-Brot, Rewee decided to close the factory in Frankfurt.
Harry-Brot produces baked bread and goods from ten plants in Germany. Sales of about 1.3 billion euros ($ 1.48 billion) were born in its financial year 2024.
Andreas Mondd, president of Bundeskartellamt, explained that the “decisive factor” in his evaluation is that Glockenbrot has yet produced “exclusively” for Rewee within the group.
“Harry-Broot is the leader in baking and baked goods in Germany. The planned acquisition of the subsidiary company, Glockenbrot, will increase the strengthening of this position. However, we have no basic competition fears that can justify the prohibition of treatment.”
“The acquisition of the competitive situation will only change for other participants in the market to the extent that it can be controlled. Even after the merger, there are still strong competitors in the market affected primarily to baked self -service and baked goods.”
Meanwhile, Harry-Broot plans to build another bakery in Ernnes, east of Frankfurt. If the project continues, the company hopes to start production in 2028.
Bundeskartellamt said that the acquisition of the Bergkirchen website and the opening of the Erlense facility “at least in southern Germany, is likely to expand the range of products and increase competition.”
