NYC Mayor Eric Adams’ ex-aide handed a reporter a potato chip bag stuffed with cash

A long -time consultant gave the New York City Mayor Eric Adams, who resigned from his administration while he was under the audit of the FBI correspondent of the potato chips bag full of criticism on Wednesday after a campaign occurred, and her lawyer later insisted not to try to bribe.

The City news website reported the episode hours after one of its correspondents said that Winnie Greco had pressed a bag of potato chips in her hands that contain a red envelope with a $ 100 bill and several bills worth $ 20.

The correspondent, Katie Hunan, examined the behavior of the Greek in the past as the major donations of Adams in the American -Chinese society.

“The situation was detonated.”

“This was not a cash.” Berri wrote in an email. “In Chinese culture, money is often granted to others in a gesture of friendship and gratitude. This is all that has been done here. Winnie’s intention was given to sympathy.”

In response to a question why Greco wanted to make such a gesture to Hunan, Brale said: “She knows the reporter and she is fond of her.”

The city said that she had an interview with Greco later on Wednesday and apologized, saying that she had made a “mistake.”

“I am very sorry. It’s a cultural thing. I don’t know. I don’t understand. I’m very sorry. I feel very bad now,” Greco said, according to the city.

In response to the report of the bag full of criticism, Adams’s re -election campaign said that she suspended GRCO from more work as an unpaid volunteer and that Adams had no prior knowledge of GRCO actions.

The city stated that Greco had sent a message to Hunan to meet her inside a full food store after both attended the opening of the Adams campaign in Harlem.

When she gave the chips bag, Hunan initially thought that Greco was giving her a snack and said she could not accept her but insists on the report.

Hunan left and discovered the money at a later time, then invited Greco and told her that she could not accept her and asked to return her. Greco said they could meet later, but they stopped responding.

Greco later called the city again and asked them not to do a story, saying, “I am trying to be a good person,” I mentioned the news port.

A spokesman for the city hall refused to comment on Wednesday night. The Adams campaign, Todd Shapiro, said that Greco does not hold any position in the campaign.

“We were shocked by these reports,” Shapiro said. “Mayor Adams had no prior knowledge of this issue. He has always demanded the highest ethical and legal standards, and his only focus on serving the residents of New York City is still intended.”

A text message was not sent to a phone number listed in GRCO’s general records on Wednesday night immediately.

Since she resigned from the Director of Adams for Asian Affairs last fall, Greco was sometimes seen in the events of the Adams campaign. Before her resignation, Greco had worked as a long delivery link for Adams with the American -Chinese society in the city. It was also a campaign to collect abundant donations for Adams’s campaigns.

In February 2024, Federal agents searched two properties belonging to GRCO. The authorities did not explain what the investigation was about, and Greco was not charged with a crime, but it was a number of assistants close to Adams who resigned or fired amid federal audit.

The city has extensively reported the investigation and the behavior of GRCO, including a volunteer allegations in the campaign that GRCO promised that he had a job in the city if he helped renew its house.

The separate federal investigation in Adams was accused in 2024, the mayor of accepting the contributions of the illegal campaign and travel discounts from a Turkish official and others – and re -preferences through, among other things, help Turkey to open a diplomatic building without passing fire inspections.

A federal judge rejected the case in April after the Ministry of Justice ordered the prosecutors to drop the charges, on the pretext that the case is interfering with the ability of the mayor to help President Donald Trump’s suppression of illegal immigration.
