Trump administration pushes for rapid U.S.-India trade agreement within months

US Secretary of Trade Howard Lottenic, speaking at the USSPF strategic partnership forum (USSPF) for 2025, explained the future of the United States and India trade relations, and urged deep economic cooperation in line with the push of president Trump, which is driven by the customs tariff.

The Minister of Commerce admitted that the unusual fast timetable that the administration is following, unlike traditional multi -year negotiations.
“These types of deals that are used to take two or 3 years, and we are trying to accomplish them in one month, that is, as you know, not only the regular DNA of trade relations between countries,” he said.

Lootnick argued that the administration does not defend comprehensive concessions from India, but “reasonable access to the markets of India.”
“We would like our business to reach the reasonable access to the markets of India,” he said. “Now, everything will not be and will not be everywhere. But we want to reduce the trade deficit.”
“Now in return, what India wants is that they will get some of the main markets that they want to make sure they have a special access to the American market,” he said. “This is barter.”
He said that the ongoing talks between India and the United States were “a very good place.”
“We were able to be in a very good place, and you must expect a deal between the United States and India in the non -far -long future, because I think we have found a place to really work in both countries,” he said.
