Steny Hoyer faces primary challenge over age in 2026 Maryland race

The Democrats of Maryland Steini Heuer have not yet announced whether he would seek to re -election next year for 24 years in Congress.
If he does that, he will face a key competitor who introduces Omar Heuer – a member of Congress at the age of 86 next month and will be 89 at the end of his next term – the focus of his campaign.
“If you live here in South Maryland, I want to ask you a difficult question. Do you really think that Steny Hoyer, 89, is the best person to represent us?” Said Harry Jarin, 35, 35 years old, a 35 -year -old.
Garine argued that we are “in a moment of real crisis. Radical Republicans are burning our country around us. Our friends and family working in the government are losing their jobs. We continue to send politicians like Steny Hoyer to Congress over and over again. Tired politicians like Steny can fight a battle.”

Jarin said: “Here is the bottom line: Do not put a fire by sending the same people who allowed her to spread. Send a firefighter.” “Maryland deserves a new generation of driving, and I am ready to take the battle.”

Hyair, who first won his seat in Congress in special elections in 1981, from 2003 to 2023, was the second Democrat in the House of Representatives behind Representative Nancy Pelosi. He held the position of majority leader in the House of Representatives from 2007-2011 and 2019-2023, when Democrats took control of the Chamber.
Along with Pelosi, Hayer stepped down from his leading position for a long time at the end of 2022 but remained in Congress.
Democrats expect that Republicans in the House of Representatives will pay a price to pass the “major and beautiful bill” of Trump
“I think we were all there for some time and we have a great sense of time. I think the three felt this is the right time,” Hayer told CNN at that time.
Heuer has always been a major supporter of the most important issues of Democrats, and during his second work as a majority leader in the House of Representatives, he played a decisive role in the passage of the alleged American rescue plan called Joe Biden.

Hierer, who has a slight stroke last year, is the latest Democrat in a high -level parliament that faces a fundamental challenge from a younger discount.
Pelosi and actors Brad Sherman from California and Jean Shakovsky from Illinois faced basic challenges, as Shakovsky later announced that she would not be nominated for his re -election.
The basic challenges come at a time when Democrats are still trying to re -assemble their ranks after the setbacks of the November elections, when the party lost control of the White House and the majority of the Senate, and presented in their attempt to restore the House of Representatives.
The party’s base is angry and vital to a decline against the arrogant and controversial movements by President Donald Trump in the four months since his return to the White House.
In addition, while many of this anger and energy are directed to fighting Republicans in the White House and Congress, some target the Democrats who many feel at the party base that they are not noisy enough in their efforts to calm Trump.
At the same time, other Democrats who return to a long or older in safe blue areas face the possibility of basic challenges.
