HBO Passed On Making The Walking Dead For A Surprising Reason

In an interview with Collider in December 2024, Kirkman attributed to the original show “Walk Dead”, Frank Darbont, with the series at all. According to Kirkman, Darbont has stumbled through “Walking Dead” in The House of Secrets (Comedy Store in Borbank, California) and I think the drama was an ideal story to present to TV. It was not the only one. The “Walking Dead” product also summoned the product to Variety in 2016:
“What attracted me [Robert Kirkman’s] The series of comic books is that it is a story about characters on a trip to this new world, and she is constantly trying to discover not only how to survive but what is important for them. “
But emotional like Darbont and Partners. They were, they were still facing a problem to persuade TV networks. Darbonst brought the chain to NBC because it concluded a deal with the network at the time. However, its problems with the materials extend beyond the violence. A NBC executive believed that “Walking Dead” caricature should be adapted as a police procedural, apparently, Sharif Rick Grames and his partner will solve the crimes related to zombie every week. Another asked: “Should there be zombies?”
Despite their reservations about violence, HBO appears to have been more interested. Kirkman Collider claimed that there is a “bidding war” between AMC and HBO for “The Walking Dead” in the end. (We all know who won that.) Here is how Kirkman put it:
“AMC and HBO entered a kind of competition,“ We will give this Robert this. ” Then to HBO, we will be like, “AMC gave us this”, and HBO’D, “Good”. “
However, HBO still affects “The Walking Dead” indirectly. Darabont was not the first to play Rick Andrew Lincoln, but Thomas Jin. (Darbonst worked with Jin on “The Mist.”) But Jin had to pass because he had already signed that he advanced in “Hung”, a HBO comedy series about a middle -aged high school teacher who became a sex worker. (Three seasons.)
If HBO wins the “Walking Dead” war, one big The difference that comes to my mind is the dialogue. HBO, which is not received by the FCC rules for public broadcasting, can allow their characters to be pious with dirty words. This means that Nigan was able to curse as he did in the comic movie. Amc “The Walking Dead” allowed to stay away from superior violence, but as a broadcast network, her hands were linked to the right of the right.
