Sen. John Fetterman shared a graphic recovery photo on Saturday — two days after a fall near his Pennsylvania home sent him to a Pittsburgh hospital with a facial injury caused by a flare-up of ventricular fibrillation.
Fetterman, the Pennsylvania Democrat, posted a close-up selfie on Channel X on November 15, showing a stitched cut on his cheek while holding an iced coffee.
“Twenty stitches later and fully recovered, I went home,” he wrote, thanking the doctors at UPMC for “putting me back together” and supporters for their well wishes. The new photo comes just two days after Fetterman was hospitalized early on Thursday, November 13.

The senator was out for a morning walk near his home in Braddock when he suddenly became dizzy, collapsed and hit his face, a spokesman for the senator said. Doctors later determined that the fall was the result of episodes of ventricular fibrillation, an irregular heartbeat that can cause dizziness or sudden loss of balance.
Fetterman remained at UPMC for observation and medication adjustment before being discharged from the hospital and returning home. His office said he was “doing well” and recovering along with his wife, Gisele, and their children.
He tried to joke about the incident in a statement Thursday: “If you thought my face looked bad before, wait until you see it now!”

The stitched selfie quickly spread across social media on Saturday, sparking a wave of sympathy, political commentary and new interest in Fetterman’s health — something he has addressed publicly since suffering a debilitating stroke during his 2022 Senate campaign.
The decline comes as Fetterman has become one of the most outspoken lawmakers during the ongoing shutdown battle, breaking with most Democrats this week to vote with Republicans to reopen the federal government.

Members of both parties have faced high-profile health issues this year, leading to renewed scrutiny over medical transparency on Capitol Hill. Fetterman argued that being honest about recovery and setbacks can help normalize discussions about mental and physical health in public life.
