Spurs pushing to sign £295k-p/w “superstar” for Frank
Tottenham Hotspur have struggled to perform in the Premier League this season, but you’ll be pleased to know that the Lewis family have given Thomas Frank their backing, and are willing to spend in the January transfer window.
How can Tottenham improve this winter? What have we learned in Al-Nafza initiatives? There is pressure on the board to deliver after Daniel Levy was relieved of his duties at the end of last season, and there are many holes in Frank’s squad that need to be filled.
Talk of a new deal for defender Micky van de Ven is growing, but there remains a focus on adding quality to the front of the Spurs ship. With James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke out long-term, expect movement there.
Who is targeting Tottenham next January?
Antoine Simeño rejected Tottenham. Inquiries were made, proposals were compiled, but the Bournemouth striker rejected Lillywhite’s offers, instead focusing on a mid-season move to Manchester City.
The Ghanaian has scored eight goals and provided three assists in the Premier League this season, and can play up front. It would have been ideal for Spurs, but this switch heading to City could work in the Lilywhites’ favour.
This is because Tottenham are spying an opportunity to sign Omar Marmoush from Pep Guardiola’s team. According to Mark Bruce – as quoted by Caught Offside – Semenyu is set to replace the 26-year-old, and could leave the Etihad Stadium in 2026.
Manchester City signed Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt for around £59m in January 2024, and after a strong start, he fell down the pecking order.
There is a real chance for Tottenham to land him this winter, especially with Enek willing to spend, with the north London side said to be “pressing to sign” him.
Why will Marmoush be the “star”‘s signature?
Described by Manchester City writer Radu Christian as a “super star” striker, Marmoush stepped onto a sinking ship last season and proceeded to produce decisive performances in the Premier League, displaying his brilliance with a hat-trick against Newcastle United.
The Egypt international scored 15 goals and provided 10 assists in 17 Bundesliga matches in the 2024/25 season before traveling to England, and was deemed by creator Viago to be “one of the best strikers in the world” at that stage.
He has started just two Premier League matches this season. This does not negate his brilliance, nor does it mean that he is not among the cream of the division’s crop.
There is a strong case to be made that the £295,000-a-week talent is better than Semenho, and married to a club that can help bolster his magical qualities, and he could change that narrative before the current season is over.
After all, Marmouche may be on the fringes, but he still ranked in the top 5% of his peers in the top five in Europe’s top five leagues over the past year in terms of goals scored per 90, according to FBref, and carries a similar directness to Cherries star Semenyo.

It is worth noting that Marmouche reached a truly miserable phase in Pep Guardiola’s spell with Manchester City, offering a respite while the Spanish tactician worked to steady the ship. Now he is adrift, and Spurs must offer him a lifeline.
Last season, he proved his prolific and accurate value in the Premier League, maintaining creativity while roaming the final third.
For a player who has been awarded the 2024/25 Goal of the Season award and is considered one of the most dangerous players on the continent, he needs to play regular football, whether that is as a centre-forward, shadow striker or winger.
Spurs could give him the platform he needs to remind everyone of his quality, and maybe everyone will know that he is better than someone like Semenyu.
