‘I Beat The Guy Who Owned You’

Richardson Hitchens continues his public feud with Teofimo Lopez, boasting a victory over George Kambosos Jr., a fighter whom Teo lost to in 2021.

The back-and-forth began earlier today when Teofimo (22-1, 13 KOs) took a shot at Richardson, saying on X, “Heavy like 170+ pounds heavy.” This comment was in response to Hitchens’ boast of being “heavy”.

Hitchens wouldn’t let it go

Hitchens has been repeatedly calling out WBO light welterweight champion Lopez since his exit from Matchroom Boxing following an eighth-round knockout win over the struggling Kambosos Jr. on June 14, 2025.

Hitchens spoke highly of the win, forgetting that Kambosos had a 1-3 record in his previous four fights when he fought him. He would have more reasons to brag if he showed some courage and fought Gary-Antoine Russell or Subriel Mathias. Boasting about his victory over Kambosos makes Hitchens look arrogant.

Desperate for a big fight

Lopez’s recall after choosing not to re-sign with Matchroom was a sign of desperation on Hitchen’s part. When he decided not to return with promoter Eddie Hearn, he seemed to think there would be a rush for his services.

Richardson didn’t even get a single big-money fight like Edgar Berlanga after he opted not to re-sign with Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing following his first-round knockout win over Jonathan Gonzalez Ortiz on March 15, 2025. Turki Al-Sheikh used Berlanga as a competitor for Hamza Shiraz after he became a free agent.

Reality check for Hitchens

Hitchens needs to forget teasing Teofimo, hoping to throw him a bone. It won’t happen. Teo is a tough guy and only fights famous fighters or those he’s 100% sure he can beat. Hitchens fits neither of these categories.

More realistic options for Hitchins

  • Ernesto Mercado
  • Gary Antoine Russell
  • Keshawn Davis
  • Subriel Mathias
  • Alberto Puello
  • Jamin Ortiz
