ICC World Test Championship Points Table, WTC Table After IND vs SA 2nd Test, 2025

India have faced the pesky WTC so far, winning and losing matches, and despite being the most active team of the year and having a plethora of home matches, the Indians have failed to retain their place among the top four teams in the ICC World Test Championship points table.

India have lost two Test matches in a row at home, and after the Rohit Sharma era, this is the second time such a feat has happened. With their chances declining at the World Trade Center and a string of losses at home, India were decimated by the defending champions.

India suffered their heaviest ever defeat at home to the Proteas

India lost the match by a towering margin of 408 runs, with this now officially becoming India’s biggest ever defeat at home and the most humiliating for any team at home. This is also India’s biggest ever defeat by a margin of runs in a Test match, including home and away matches.

South Africa have won two of their last three Tests in the Indian subcontinent and have only drawn with the Pakistani team. However, even then, they have lost 10 out of 13 Tests in the subcontinent from 2015 to 2024.

Not only was this series the second Test series victory for South Africa in India, it was also the first time India had lost consecutive Test series at home in the 21st century. Before Gautam Gambhir, India had just faced back-to-back defeats in 2004 and 2012 to Australia and England at home.

The last time India lost two series at home in consecutive years was in 1983 to the West Indies and then again to England in 1984/85. This whitewashing marks the second whitewashing of India in the 21st century.

Simon Harmer is making history on Indian soil as a Proteas spinner

Simon Harmer, the spinner who returned to the Proteas side in this WTC, was their performer. It is all thanks to the spinner that the Proteas are dominating India in their home country. The Indian batsmen averaged less than 16 in the series, and for the first time in 30 years, they finished the series without a hundred.

Simon Harmer has played 4 matches against India in the subcontinent and has picked 27 wickets to his name with a best average of 15.03. 17 of those wickets came in this series alone. He now has the most wickets for South Africa in India and also the most in a single Test series for South Africa in India, surpassing Dale Steyn on both lists.

Hammer averaged 8.94 in the series, only behind Courtney Walsh’s 8.25 in the 1994/95 series. Of all the visiting bowlers with at least 20 Test scalps for India, Harmer boasts the best average and strike rate. What a performance from the South African player in the series.
