Santander scraps plan to appoint executive under criminal investigation

Santander canceled a plan to appoint a Brazilian Corrogger as an accountant for her, nearly four months after his awareness in the framework of the police investigation of alleged fraud while working in the largest bank in Brazil.

Alexssssandro Broedel Lopes joined Santander in October and was scheduled to become the chief accountant of accounting in the group in the coming months – a position that would make him a member of the senior management team.

But in a memorandum of senior managers on Wednesday seen in the Financial Times, the bank said Manuel Brito, Executive Vice president of his Portuguese business, will instead will instead the main accounting role at the end of July.

The decision to drop the date of BROEDEL comes after FT revealed in February that it was under the criminal investigation in Sao Paulo due to the embezzlement of the alleged funds while working in ITAú, the largest bank in Brazil through total assets.

Santander did not give a reason to appoint PRETO instead of BroEDEL. A person who briefed him said that Bridel remained an employee in Santander.

ITAú BROEDEL, the former financial manager, accused her of money from the bank through an arrangement with an external advisor who rented him on behalf of the lender. Paulo Paulo’s general prosecutors decided to conduct an investigation into the executive authority “to define facts”, previously said FT.

Santander’s Board of Directors appointed BroEDEL to the position of senior accounting employee last June, before allegations appeared.

The bank previously said that BroEDEL had received the necessary approvals from the organizers to assume a large position in Santander. This included passing the “proper and proper” test of the European Central Bank for senior managers.

After Broedel’s criminal investigation was announced for the first time, Santander said that BroEDEL was “great in executives” who was “to take over the position of Cao later this year.” He added that it was “observing any developments.”

Broodel has not been accused of any crime, and the results of the police investigation were not yet known.

Santander and BROEDEL spokesperson declined to comment on Wednesday note.

The actor Broedel previously described the allegations against him as “unfounded and meaningless [Itaú]”.
