Joby Aviation Has a Bold Plan to Make Flying Cars Real—Fast

Airlines were supposed to be imagination. Puncline. Caricature promised from the past to the era of Gitson. But Judy Air is no longer anything. It is a building for them.

The California -based Santa Cruz company revealed the expansion of its manufacturing facility in Marina, California, as it now has the ability to build up to 24 electric taxis per year. These two cars are flying a month. As the capacity is increased in Dayton, Ohio, and the testing of trips already in Dubai, the future of the transportation of urban air is no longer stuck in the concept stage.

The production teacher comes at a time when Gueli has completed experimental test flights in Dubai, which represents the beginning of the program of preparation in the commercial market in the United Arab Emirates. From planned to the assembly line

Dubai gets the first trip

Although manufacturing may be American, the first passengers will not be. Joby’s launch customer is Dubai, who gave the company exclusive taxi rights for six years. On the other hand, Joby is working with local aviation authorities to stand on a full commercial taxi network, starting from the roundabout under construction at Dubai International Airport.

Who gets flying?

Premium word does a lot of work here. Although the Joby plane may be clean, calm and fast, it is not cheap. At least not yet. With the limited seats, generational trips, and large regulatory costs, the first contestants of executives, tourists, wealthy passengers, not your average.

This raises questions about access, fairness and infrastructure. Will airlines become another luxurious product for elites, while cities continue to neglect the land transport for all? Or can the mature Evtol market already reduce urban congestion and create new forms that can be developed from public transport?

To date, the answers are not clear. A real air plane. Tables have aggressive. But adoption depends on everything from pricing models and safety standards to general perception and tolerance with noise.

The bottom line

With the presence of the ongoing tannas and flight factories, Joby Aviation may be the first company to manufacture a flight car, not like a dream of scientific fantasy, but as an encouraging product. Two planes per month. Six this year. Hundreds soon.
