Juventus revive interest in Sunderland midfielder Granit Xhaka

Juventus are once again showing a strong interest in Granit Xhaka, with the Sunderland midfielder emerging as a priority target ahead of the January transfer window, according to Tuttosport.

The Bianconeri are determined to bolster their midfield options, and the Swiss international is viewed internally as an ideal candidate to bring instant quality and experienced leadership to the squad.

Juve had already discussed the possibility of contracting with Xhaka during the summer, but negotiations stopped before an agreement was reached.

The Serie A giants have now revived their pursuit after closely monitoring his performances since joining Sunderland, with the 33-year-old becoming a central figure in the Blackcats’ unlikely rise up the Premier League table.

Juve are particularly attracted to Xhaka’s tactical intelligence, ball sophistication, and ability to control tempo

His experience, which spans at Arsenal, Borussia Mönchengladbach and the Swiss national team, remains highly regarded at Juventus, who believe his character and leadership can be crucial in their quest to qualify for the Champions League and achieve greater stability in the second half of the season.

Despite Juventus’ strong interest, a deal will not be straightforward. Sunderland believes that Xhaka is indispensable and the cornerstone of its ambitious project under the leadership of coach Regis Le Bris.

The club is currently enjoying a fantastic season, occupying European places, and losing a player of Xhaka’s influence midway through the season could disrupt their momentum.

Reports suggest that Sunderland will ask for at least €15m to consider a sale, and even then, they will need guarantees that they can secure a high-quality replacement.

The addition of Xhaka would provide Juve with an experienced professional capable of operating as a deep playmaker or as a more advanced left midfielder in Juventus’ familiar 4-3-3 or 3-5-2 formation.

It remains uncertain whether Juventus can convince Sunderland to sell, but interest is expected to grow in the coming weeks.
