Kandi Burruss Talks Thanksgiving Plans Amid Todd Tucker Divorce

Despite reports of an “amicable” split, Kandi Burruss told fans that the past few days have been tough.

Kandi Burruss wasn’t at a loss when asked how she was handling the divorce filing. The singer said it’s been a “pretty crazy time” since the official paperwork was filed.

“I’ll be very honest with you. I’m up and down,” Kandi Burruss responded to a fan’s question about divorce. “Divorce is definitely not the easiest thing,” she noted.

The multi-talented admitted that sometimes divorced people feel calm, and other times there are “moments of sadness.” While starring on the reality TV show, Kandi said she couldn’t hide her life, but now she aims to deal with her divorce privately.

“In real life, in my daily life, I don’t really like to share these moments with the world. But I’m sharing them with my Amazon family today — I’m up and down,” she said during a live broadcast on Amazon.

While the papers are fresh, Kandi Burruss has clarified that the divorce is in order “It’s something that’s been brewing for a while.” She admitted that while she smiled in public, it meant nothing because behind closed doors she was “going through it” and life was “living it”. Regarding online narratives about the split, Candy said: “Sometimes things don’t work out. It is what it is.” According to People, the singer also confirmed that she and Todd will spend Thanksgiving together for the sake of their nine-year-old and six-year-old children.

“We’re co-parenting together. We have beautiful kids together, so we’re trying to make this transition as smooth as possible for our kids,” Burruss said during Amazon Live. This is our main concern. We keep it very friendly.”

Burruss exclusively told PEOPLE that filing for divorce was a difficult choice. However, she said the couple is committed to co-parenting their children amicably. Candy and Todd have two children. Their son Ace was born in January 2016, while their daughter Blaze arrived via surrogate in November 2019. They both have adult daughters from previous relationships.

“After careful consideration and a lot of prayer, I have made the decision to move forward with the divorce. This is a difficult and emotional time, but my focus remains on protecting my peace, being the best mother I can be, and co-parenting with love and respect,” Kandi Burruss told PEOPLE.

She said the next chapter will be about focusing on her work, her family and her own growth. “I am grateful to everyone who has supported us over the years, and I ask for privacy, grace and understanding as we go through this transition with our family.” Boros added.

While Kandi has been vocal about the divorce, longtime fans of the couple have yet to hear from Todd Tucker. However, a day after the singer submitted her petition, the parents reached out to celebrate Blaise’s sixth birthday.

Even though the relationship has come to an end, business is still booming for Kandi and Todd Tucker! Just like the child custody terms, it’s unclear how their joint ventures will be divided. In the past decade, they have co-founded several companies, including restaurants and a trucking company. Two of their restaurants, Old Lady Gang and Blaze, are permanently closed. According to Black Enterprise, Montego Pacific was the landlord of the Blaze location, and filed a lawsuit against Todd and Kandi’s company, Burruss Tucker Restaurant Group, seeking $56,000 in repairs and $154,000 in back rent. In July, the company requested an emergency hearing, accusing Montego Pacific of demanding more money outside of the lawsuits. Kandi has reportedly been dropped from the lawsuit as a defendant since it was filed in the spring.

Independently, Kandi Burruss filed for divorce just weeks before starring in the Broadway musical & Juliet. She first announced her return to the stage in October. From December to March, she will play the character Angelique.

“I couldn’t be more thrilled to be returning to the Broadway stage in this amazing musical,” Burruss said. “As a songwriter, I am a huge fan of the brilliant mind of Max Martin, and returning to Broadway in this joyous musical celebrating his catalog is a dream come true,” she said in October.

Meanwhile, on Monday, Todd flooded his Instagram story with photos of the lounge space and a new promo for the podcast. The next day, TheJasmineBrand reported that Tucker had signed on as a producer for the women’s sports podcast “The PlayHER Lounge.”
