Kyprios retired: Aidan O’Brien calls time on dual Gold Cup hero’s career after aggravation of old injury | Racing News

Kipros, winner of the Aidan O’Brien Cup, was retired due to an exacerbation of an old injury.

The seven -year -old son leaves the path with an incredible score of 17 wins from 21 trips.

What makes his accomplishments more merit is that after a wonderful season in 2022 when he won all six races, including the first gold cup, he missed nearly 2023.

He returned to the autumn campaign and met two defeats, but last year it was better than ever when winning all seven beginnings, including the second gold cup.

Their owners announced the news on X, “due to the worsening of the old rabank scourge, we decided not to take any opportunities with Kyprios, and although it is currently healthy, the decision has been taken well to retire from the race.”

Kyprios was completely intact until his last picnic in The Saval Beg in Leopardstow, when O’Brien informed that he had taken lame steps.

By the next morning, the BallyDoyle processor was able to issue a positive update, but given what it means to those around it, the decision was made with horse interests in the heart.

“It was a truly incredible horse,” O’Brien told the Palestinian Authority. “We had to be very respectful. In every way it is perfect, but when he set out a little on the last day, we could not bear any risks.

“This was the first time that he has taken a wrong step since he recovered from his serious injury. Everyone just wanted to do it properly.

“It was the most incredible horse, it had an incredible mind to go with its amazing ability.

“I do not think that any other horse in the world would have returned from the injury he sustained.”

Many of the Kyprios profession have emerged, but one racing in its record is particularly highlighted on O’Brien – Prix du Cadran of 2022, when he won 20 long long despite his suspension violently to his left within the Final Furlong.

He said: “There was that day in France when he won a long run. It was just a malfunction at home!

“He was once round, he could see where he needed to go and just wanted to return. He was an incredible horse, and he was always in the second hardware most of the time.

“This was unusual that Prix du Cadran, they all fell away, and nothing could go with him and leave him at the forefront a little single.”
