Lando Norris has McLaren repercussions removed after Oscar Piastri responsibility in Austin Sprint crash ahead of Mexico City GP | F1 News
McLaren has cleared the implications for Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri has confirmed, with teammates and title rivals to compete with a “clean record” at this weekend’s Mexico City Grand Prix.
In what appears to be an effective elimination of consequences for drivers following crashes in each of the final two race weekends, Piastri said he took a “degree of responsibility” for the collision at Turn 1 in Austin last Saturday that saw both McLarens exit the Sprint race after the team conducted a post-event review earlier this week.
Norris arrived in Austin with what McLaren described as “marginal” sporting consequences imposed on him for his tire collision with Piastri at the start of the previous race in Singapore. The penalty is believed to most likely be related to Piastri’s preference on whether he will run first or second on track in the latter part of qualifying.
Norris said the punishment will affect him for the rest of the season.
But after the drama in Austin, which saw Piastri inadvertently crush both McLarens at Turn 1 after causing a multi-car collision when he overtook Sauber’s Nico Hulkenberg, the list has now been wiped clean.
“The consequences have been removed from Lando’s side,” Piastri confirmed.
Regarding McLaren’s review of the Sprint accident, Piastri said: “There is a degree of responsibility on my part at Sprint and we will start this weekend with a clean slate for both of us.”
