Who Is Haiti’s New Interim Leader, Laurent Saint-Cyr?

Welcome to Foreign policyLatin American summary.

The most prominent events this week: Haiti opens a A new temporary leaderBolivia prepares for Presidential electionsand The legacy of the rocks It endures in Argentina.

The political and security crisis in Haiti entered a new chapter last week. Laurent Saint-Sir, a wealthy businessman, took over the rotating leadership of the country’s transitional government.

Saint Siere represents the private sector in Haiti, while the members of other council come from civil society, government and politics. Saint-CYR is scheduled to remain in this position until a new president takes office in February after a specific election in November.

The last political delivery was tense. The gang coalition has expanded its presence in the capital of Haiti Port or Prince in Haiti since the assassination of President Jovenil Moise in 2021. With the approaching transfer of last week, the gang leader Jimmy Chereshee – whose name is De Jweiri, the barbecue – was threatened to conclude many buildings in a government acquisition.

The US -supported multinational security force, which is led by Kenyan, stationed in Haiti, said it had defeated a plot “to disrupt national stability and make the country not to happen” on August 7. More than a year has passed since the mission that was deployed in Haiti to help the police gangs fight the police, but it has much fewer reinforcements.

St. Cyr admitted that the current strategies to address the insecurity in Haiti were short and called for more international employees and financial support for the security forces. Whether it’s due to the lack of workforce or tactical failures, the security mission has not been able to significantly restore regional control from the Haiti gangs.

More than 1.3 million people in the country are about 11 million internal candidates, the highest number in the country’s history. Both gangs and police were accused of killing outside the judiciary. The United Nations has reported more than 870 cases of alleged human rights violations that involve law enforcement officers between April and June.

The United Nations official said Haiti is the least funding plan for all United Nations humanitarian calls this year. In addition to external aid discounts in the United States, it seems that other donors have canceled the crisis. About half of all haitians suffer from acute food insecurity. In June, the United Nations included Haiti as one of the worst hot sites in the world, alongside Gaza and South Sudan.

Some Haitians met St. Cyr’s arrival in suspicion. He is a member of the country’s commercial elite, which often carries the weight of public anger in recent years for corruption accusations and the focus of resources outside the hands of the working class.

St. Cyr pledged to “restore the authority of the state” and said that security would be a top priority under his leadership, although he did not immediately provide the details of politics. As his call to foreign donors shows, what he can accomplish may depend on external aid.

On Tuesday, the United States appeared for the first time in its recent policy to address violence in Haiti, with a barbecue accusation for violations of sanctions. The US State Department has announced a $ 5 million reward for information that may lead to seizure.

It may be the broadest support to intensify international security support for the country. The American Organization (OAS) is studying a 1.4 billion security and humanitarian support task, which will be supported by the European Union, Politico I mentioned earlier this month.

The Secretary -General of the Organization of the Organization of Reserves, Albert Ramedin, described the crisis in Haiti as a “moral commitment”.

A new commercial deal. Indonesia and Peru signed a free trade deal in Jakarta this week, as Dina Polwari became the first president in Peru to a government visit to the archipelago. This was the last step in the gradual and political trade of Latin American countries for Asia. Lima expects her exports of products such as cocoa, berries, fertilizers, and zinc will rise as a result of the deal. The best exports of Indonesia to Peru are cars, shoes and vital lodes.

Although the agreement can help Indonesia compensate for the pain of 19 percent American definitions, it has been in its position since US President Donald Trump took office. It took only 14 months for negotiators to connect the agreement. Indonesia has also applied to join the comprehensive and progressive agreement of the Pacific partnership, which is considered a member.

Relations between the United States and Mexico. On Tuesday, Mexico conducted its second group of prominent prisoners’ transfer to the United States this year. Twenty -six people accused of links to the cartridges were transferred to American facilities.

Follow delivery a New York Times Last week’s report that Trump has ordered the US Department of Defense to prepare plans for military operations on foreign lands against the cartridges that Washington has identified as terrorist organizations.

Mexican President Claudia Shinbom responded to the report, saying that the military “invasion” will be unacceptable, but Mexico will continue to cooperate with the United States on security issues. American concerns about drug trafficking are part of continuous bilateral talks with Mexico, which also covers the tariff, which the United States stopped until the end of October.

Argentine rock camp. The winter vacation has just ended for many students throughout South America. In Buenos Aires, this means that the rock camp did so as well. Rock fever did not die in Argentina. Although many of the country’s most famous polyets are men with hair, women are growing increasingly at the scene.

One of the workshops run by volunteers on the outskirts of Boez Aires is the working class of girls between the ages of 7 and 16. The emerging rock in the “amplified girls” took chapters not only in guitar and vocal lessons, and how Vanzin is made, but also in self -defense and sometimes chopped history of women in rock & roll music.

Volunteers came from Spain, Uruguay, Paraguay and Peru, as well as Argentina to help in the camp, center books. It is part of a parallel form of international relations: the Girls Camp Rock, which extends all over the world.

This type is here to stay in Latin America. “I am so strong that your opinion does not matter,” sang an emerging group – the group of foreigners chosen – in the final offer of the camp last month.

Any of the following two rock artists no Argentina?

On Sunday, the Bolivion will vote in the first round of the unusually open presidential elections.

Since the middle of the first decade of the twentieth century, the country has been taking place around the Socialist Party of former President Evo Morales and opposing the policies of the big state. Morales served three periods and ran in vain to fourth, which later enhanced the protection of the presidency.

Morales has been divided since then behind him and prevented a law from running again. He refused to support a candidate in this race, and called on his supporters to spoil their voices instead. Bolivia suffers from a deep economic crisis, with a lack of fuel and more than 20 percent of annual inflation.

It appears to be the perfect recipe for the right -wing opposition candidate to win. But divisions on the right and large numbers of unlimited voters are injecting the uncertainty in the race.

The swing to the right can significantly turn Bolivia’s foreign policy, which in recent years has embraced China, Russia and Latin America regional. Bolivia fully joined the South American Trade Bloc, Mercosur last year. A new president can also move to the opening of vast and unused lithium reserves in the Bolivia, which is currently controlling, to more special development.

The right -wing candidates who lead many opinion polls, Samuel periodically, debtically and George Kiruja, to compute the president three times before. Doria Media is a businessman who designs himself after Argentine President Javier Millie, and Cuwarouga, a former bank official, held the position of Vice President and short Pink as President.

On the left, the polling is less specific, partially due to Morales’s invitation to spoil the votes instead of voting for an alternative left candidate. Sunday elections will show the effectiveness of that step.
