Gristedes CEO slams NYC mayoral candidate’s city-owned grocery store plan

John Katmsatidis, CEO of Gristedes, had harsh words on Thursday to Zahran Mamdani and city -owned grocery stores, and the New York City mayor’s candidate proposed.

While appearing on “America’s reports”, Catsimatidis called “Mamdani” “a great man” but he said that the mayor’s candidate “does not know what he is talking about” and “does not know anything about the work.”

“He is a creation figure, and we have the highest cost in the country, the highest cost of energy, and the highest cost of transportation. We even have congestion prices and union costs,” said Katmsatidis of Apple Great.

Mamdani said that he will create government -owned grocery stores in New York City as part of a broader platform by a campaign.

His campaign site on his campaign site says that the city must “redirect public funds” from large chains to the city’s owned stores “focusing on keeping prices low.”

According to Mamdani’s proposal, government -owned grocery stores “will buy and sell at wholesale prices, focus warehouses and distribution” and follow the sources of local products while providing savings for residents, his website said.

Catsimatidis argued that the city’s government “will end up” if Mamdani created the city’s grocery stores.

“It will end like Havana,” said GRICEDES. “I was there in Havana with Fidel Castro. The shelves were empty.

Catsimatidis apparently prompted Mamdani, accused of grocery stores of involvement in price broadcasts.

“We are paying the highest taxes in the world. Give us incentives, and we will decrease prices,” he said. Get rid of real estate taxes, we will reduce prices.

Catsimatidis added: “He does not know what he is talking about.” “He is preparing people in the world, and all of this is a handful of – how does Trump say? – A group of nonsense. God forbid this man.”

Mamdani won the elections of the mayor of New York City in late last month.

He has fought on a platform that includes economic policies that are in line with left -wing and socialist progressive progressive, such as the minimum wage of $ 30, and the tax increase on companies, rich policies and other policies, such as the imposition of rental rental for independent tenants.

When asked whether he will continue to live in New York City if Mamdani wins the general elections, Katsmsidis said, “You never know.”

“Maybe I will live in New York for less than 185 days a year. But people in Florida say,“ Come on. ”Texas says,“ Come down. ”Blue countries must realize that they have to compete with the rest of the country, and they do not understand that,” said Catsimatidis.

He added that he was “awaiting” what Democratic leaders such as the New York Governor Cathy Hochol, leader of the Senate Chuck Schumer and the leader of the minority in the House of Representatives Hakim Jeffrez “will do with Mamdani.
