Leeds United pushing to sign Chelsea star Axel Disasi before transfer deadline

Leeds United remain heavily linked with a move to bolster their defense as the transfer window approaches its deadline.

Farke explains Leeds’ transfer plans

As they seek not to lose their place in the Premier League after just one season, Leeds have already been active in January. The Whites have signed Facundo Buonanotti on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion, ensuring that manager Daniel Farke now finally has a player capable of playing as a number 10 or on the wing.

Otherwise, the German is in no way pushing for more additions, as the coach himself made clear.

“My goal is not to expand the group. We want to keep the group together. We want to keep our cohesion and unity. (But) if we feel: OK, there’s an option that makes us better, we’ll do that.”

“But you also know my position, which is that I think the January market will be difficult. For this reason, we are not in a state of panic, and we are not under any pressure to do anything anyway,” he added.

Although Farke is not adamant about recruiting depth for his squad, the 49-year-old also indicated that his club would push for a move if he made them a definitively better team.

Since returning in late November at the Etihad Stadium in a 3-2 loss to Manchester City, Leeds have often used three central defenders. However, summer signing Jaka Pegol missed the win over Fulham, after weeks of consistent impressive performances.

Fellow summer recruit Sebastien Bornau was solid when used, but the Belgian’s fitness struggles had been ongoing long before his move to Elland Road.

Maintaining such a formation requires more depth in defence. James Justin can be used as a centre-back when needed, but the Englishman must also provide cover for both wings of the Leeds backline.

Leeds are pushing for Disasi’s signature

According to football Insider, Chelsea defender Axel Disasi has been ‘heavily linked’ with a move to West Yorkshire and they will now do everything in their power to sign him, with the Frenchman having been part of the Blues’ so-called ‘bomb squad’ since 2024.

Leeds are close to signing new signing Jorginio Rutter for big money

Leeds United are closer than ever to signing a superstar, who could be the second coming of Jorginio Rutter at Elland Road.

Whether it was with Chelsea or during his loan at Aston Villa last year, Disasi, who has five caps for his country, has proven himself as a capable defender in the Premier League.

After being described as a ‘monster’ by journalist Rahman Osman, the 27-year-old has not featured for Chelsea this season. Despite Liam Rosenior’s recent arrival at Stamford Bridge, the former Strasbourg boss appears to have no place for Disasi in his team.

By contrast, the defender could instantly become an important player for Leeds, who have looked at Disasi in recent months.

Crystal Palace are said to be monitoring the centre-back, who could see Elland Road as a place where first-team football is easily accessible. With just one loss in 11 games since the formation change, Disasi’s arrival, and Leeds being able to stick with a back three as a result, could be pivotal as the club hopes to secure security in the Premier League.
