Library system partners with Planned Parenthood to display sex-ed cabinets

California’s main public libraries system cooperated with family organization to enhance “sexual health resources” in its libraries. These tanks, which can be accessed, contain library visitors – including children who do not have restrictions – contain condoms, pregnancy tests, contraceptive means, dental dams, lubricants and sexual education materials, all available for free.
The Sacramento Public Library system, in partnership with St. Monte’s family, began placing tanks in 12 out of 28 offices six weeks ago, CBS News said for the first time. The library system is under the jurisdiction of the city’s boycott.
Tanks, which include planned family brochures entitled “How to talk to your child about sex”, are also stored with QR codes that direct people to sexual health materials to the clinic.

This step has caused the concerns of groups active in the rights of parents that say that the tanks provide a way for the local government to reach minors with explicit content without approval or knowledge of parents.

“I don’t understand why they think children should have sex. No one is on both sides of the corridor,” Greg Pert, Vice President of the California Family Council, said in an interview.
“I think when parents realize that this happens in their libraries, they will not take their children to the library anymore. They are not safe spaces.”

The tanks are placed intermittently around libraries, according to CBS, with some in the open in the main space of the library, while others are placed near the adult sections.
“We want to remove the stigma around these resources,” said Todd Dick, Director of Community Participation Services at the Sacramento Public Library.
Tanks can be found in libraries in Central, Belle Cooledge, Robbie Waters Pocket-Greenhaven, Southgate, Carmichael, Rancho Cordova, Valley Hi-North Laguna, Walnut Grove, South Natomas, Rio Linda, Fair Oaks, and Sylvan Oaks.

“There is one thing that we must take into account is that we are approaching this like that we are doing a book on our shelves,” said Dick. “Although this resource may not be applicable for everyone, we want to make it available to the people they need.”
