Liverpool targeting move for ex-manager Brendan Rodgers

The pressure is mounting at Anfield. Liverpool manager Arne Slott is under increasing scrutiny as the Reds struggle through one of the club’s worst spells in decades.

Reports indicate that the club is considering a surprise meeting with former coach Brendan Rodgers.

Expectations were very high after winning the Premier League title in his first season and the summer transfer window.

However, the 2025-2026 campaign has taken a worrying turn. Liverpool have lost nine of their last 12 games in all competitions, a decline the club has not seen in more than 70 years.

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Liverpool have already identified Rodgers, along with Andoni Airola, as potential candidates to replace Slott.

Rodgers, who previously managed Liverpool before Klopp, is said to be open to a return should the offer come through.

The attraction is clear. Rodgers knows the club well, understands the pressure, and could be considered a safe keeper, at least in the short term. To stabilize a sinking ship.

However, the bigger question remains whether it will be seen as a long-term solution or just temporary while the club searches for a more sustainable solution.

Rodgers already knows Liverpool’s culture, expectations and atmosphere at Anfield. This could ease his transfer and help restore morale among players and fans.

Hiring a well-known manager reduces the time needed to adjust, compared to hiring an entirely new external candidate. However, a reunion with Rodgers is by no means guaranteed.

The Reds have full confidence in Arne Slott

Slott still has the support of Liverpool’s owners and they will be hoping their recent win over West Ham United, a 2-0 win away from home in which new signing Alexander Isak scored his first Premier League goal, will give the manager and team confidence during the current crisis.

The fact that Rodgers was sacked by Liverpool in 2015 speaks for itself. He had previously failed to lead the club to sustained long-term success. Bringing it back can be seen as a step backwards, not progress.

While Slott may currently be struggling to compete for the league and Champions League, Merseyside’s switch to Rodgers is pure media speculation and nothing else.
