Mamdani’s earlier ‘defund police’ stance resurfaces after deadly Manhattan office shooting

The Democratic Mayor in New York City, Zahran Mandyiani, is facing the renewal of his previous police stances in the wake of a mass shooting to build offices in central Manhattan, killing four civilians as well as a police officer.

“I am sad to get to know the horrific shooting in the city center and carry the victims and their families and the New York police officer in a critical condition in my thoughts. Grateful to all our respondents on the ground,” Mamdani also posted to X on Monday night.

In the responses, people quickly shared pictures on June 8, 2020, when Mamada said, “No, we want to enter the police” and November 5, 2020, where he said, “The liberation of the stranger means entering the police.”

“We do not need to be achieved to know that NYPD is racist, hostile to the leader and a great threat to public safety. What we need is #defundthenypd. [New York City mayor]

“All this misery. All for money. In the last budget, the city council tried to make the New York Police reduce the additional budget of the work by half. They simply refused. There is no negotiation with the Foundation of this bad guys and corruption.

“I will not calm the police. I will work with the police because I think the police have a decisive role in public service and public safety,” he said.

“The police have a decisive role in playing. But now, we rely on them to deal with our social safety network failures-which prevent them from carrying out their actual functions. Through this new city agency and the full government approach, the priorities of the safety of society will be determined as it has not happened before in NYC.”

Other mayors of others also condemned the tragedy in Manhattan on Monday evening, including current Mayor Eric Adams, a former police officer in the city.

“I was terrified of the city center. I am grateful for our NYPD courage and the first respondents, and my prayers with the victims and their families,” published former New York Governor Andrew Como.

Republican candidate Cortis Slawa wrote: “The annoying reports from the center of Manhattan – reported that the Multiple people opened fire, including a New York police officer. Pray for everyone affected.

The four -mayor race on November 4. Adams chose to run as one of the independents after being the last democratic candidate, and the Komo decision to stay in the race comes after Mamdani defeated him in the introductory elections in what some considered a difficult victory.
