Man City boss Pep Guardiola wants left-back Nathaniel Brown

Manchester City have set their sights on one of Germany’s most promising young defenders, with Bild reporting that Eintracht Frankfurt left-back Nathaniel Brown has been added to the club’s shortlist.

The 22-year-old has emerged as one of the best full-backs in the Bundesliga this season, and continues his rapid rise since joining Eintracht Frankfurt from Nuremberg in 2024.

Brown’s combination of talent, defensive quality and technical ability not only cemented his place in Frankfurt’s starting line-up, but also earned him his debut for the German national team in October, a testament to how quickly his tally has risen.

Manchester City’s interest comes at a time when Pep Guardiola is seeking to enhance depth and competition on the left side of his defensive unit.

The club have alternated between Nico O’Reilly and Rayan Ait Nouri this season, but are keen to add a young, versatile option capable of contributing in multiple phases of play.

Brown fits the profile perfectly: a modern, attack-minded full-back who can shift into midfield, advance the ball under pressure, and recover quickly in defensive transitions, qualities that Guardiola demands from his defenders.

Brown’s underlying numbers also caught City’s attention. According to Bundesliga data, he ranks among the best full-backs in defensive duels won and progressive drives, while also contributing significantly to creating chances from wide areas.

Frankfurt, aware of the growing interest around their star defender, are said to be preparing for significant interest from Europe’s elite as his value continues to rise.

Brown is seen as a long-term fixture for the club, but with City now on the fan list, a transfer battle cannot be ruled out.

Manchester City is expected to continue to monitor Brown closely over the coming months, especially as they plan to reshape their defensive structure.

The Premier League side has focused on Bundesliga matches in the past as well and their experiment has been very successful.

The likes of Erling Haaland, Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan and many others moved to England to join Manchester City from the Bundesliga and have had an impressive spell in the Premier League.
