Connecticut governor suggests Mamdani win could trigger financial instability

Democratic Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont has warned against Zahran Mamdani winning the New York City mayoral race given the impact his policies could have on Wall Street.

In an interview with Bloomberg TV, Lamont also hinted at the impact on neighboring Connecticut’s financial ecosystem.

“New York City is the financial capital of the world, and we are a big part of it here,” Lamont said at the Greenwich Economic Forum on Tuesday. “I want to make sure the next mayor understands how important New York City is to this system, and this is important to Connecticut.”

Lamont’s comments come as Democratic Socialist Mamdani, 33, continues to shake up Wall Street and the broader business community with his left-wing platform.

His campaign promises include a rent freeze, free child care, and government-run grocery stores, all funded by high taxes on corporations and the wealthy in New York.

After winning the primary over former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, Mamdani is now leading the race after current New York City Mayor Eric Adams dropped out of the race.

Lamont warned that instability in New York’s financial landscape could easily impact Connecticut’s economy if Mamdani succeeds.

Mamdani appeals to non-democrats to push for general elections, and pledges that the government is capable of meeting the material needs of voters

At the same time, Lamont emphasized that Connecticut remains a haven of relative stability for financial companies.

“They know where the state is going, and taxes are a little lower,” he said, adding that Democratic governors like himself focus on pragmatic leadership.

“Governors have to balance the budget. They have to do it on time. Governors can’t shut down the government.”

The Lamont and Mamdani campaigns did not immediately respond to FOX Business’ request for comment.
