INEOS have now reportedly made a bid to sign Manchester United’s impressive star striker worth more than £85m this month.

Amid all the chaos of their managerial search, Manchester United still have the January transfer window to deal with. This has been the subject of Ruben Amorim’s dismay as he searches for reinforcements and now it is up to INEOS to carry on without their sacked manager, and figure out who to appoint next.

Of course, what makes things difficult is that they may not know who their next permanent manager will be until the summer. Recent reports have claimed that the current plan is to appoint a caretaker manager – likely in the form of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – until the end of the season, before they make a move for a more permanent option.

In terms of who that permanent manager could be, Luis Enrique’s name surfaced earlier this week amid reports that he is set to leave Paris Saint-Germain at the end of his current deal in 2027.

While this is certainly a long time for those at Old Trafford to wait, they can still try to convince the Spaniard to leave the French side a year early and take on the challenge of rebuilding Manchester United.

Meanwhile, if it is not the PSG coach, it could be Crystal Palace coach Oliver Glasner. The Austrian is on track to leave the south London club when his contract expires at the end of the season, allowing United to swoop in and land a free deal.

Like many others on the Red Devils’ shortlist, Glasner will benefit from the addition of star striker Yann Diomandi to Old Trafford. According to Caught Offside, Manchester United have made a bid for Diomande, but Leipzig are not keen on selling this month and value their star at around €100m (£87m).

Under Amorim, the arrival of wing stars has rarely made sense. In his 3-4-2-1 system, wide players often find themselves in a central position in one of the two number 10 positions or at full-back with additional defensive responsibility. The likes of Diomande would have been doomed from the start.

Now that they have shown their manager the door, however, Man United have the opportunity to welcome a manager who can take Diomande to the next level.

The 19-year-old is already one of the players to watch in the Bundesliga and has a number of clubs tracking his progress, including United. If they want to switch to a four-man system in defence, which uses the wings, it should be among their priorities.

With 11 appearances in 16 games so far this season, it is no wonder Leipzig are so keen to keep hold of Diomande, who has received high praise from Marcel Schäfer.

The managing director said: “He is a left winger with amazing speed, he can dribble, he is very athletic and can finish the game. He also never gives the ball away and works for the team. Despite all the excitement, we must give Jan enough time to adapt to life in Leipzig and the Bundesliga.”
