Uber announces feature allowing women to select female preference for riders, drivers

Uber announced “women’s preferences” on Wednesday that would allow women and drivers of drivers in the United States to communicate only with other women only for their trips through a passenger participation service.

The experimental program will start in the next few weeks in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Detroit. The company does not have a launch date for other American cities.

“In all parts of the United States, handrail women and drivers told us that they want to match the option with other women on trips,” the company said in a press statement. “We have heard them – and now we offer new ways to give them more control of how they ride and lead them.”

The company added: “For the first time in the United States, we launch women’s preferences – the trends designed to give contesting women and drivers more options, more confidence, and more flexibility when using Uber.”

The new feature comes at a time when Uber has registered thousands of accidents of sexual assaults over the years and sought to provide measures to make travel safer.

The company previously launched the Women Rider’s preferences in other countries, allowing women in about 40 countries to order female bikes. The program was launched for the first time in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 2019 after the approval of the law of granting women the right to leadership, and then expanded after receiving a “very positive” response.

Contesting women should check their sex on the app to access the new feature. When choosing a riding, “Women P drptuum” will be on request with current options such as Uberxl, Uber Black, Comfort and Wait & Save. Passengers can also reserve flights with women.

In addition, women drivers will have the option to seek flights with contestants.

Although it is not guaranteed, the company said that the bicycles and drivers can change the preferences of women in their application settings to increase the opportunities to match another woman.

Lyft, another riding service, provided “Women+ Connect” option-similar to the new Uber program-in September 2023 before its expansion in the country in February 2024.
