Marine journalist analyzes yacht Perry and Trudeau were spotted aboard

Marine journalist Kevin Koenig, known online as “The Yacht Fella,” took to social media this week to analyze the ship on which Katy Perry was seen cozying up with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Caravelle, a 24-meter (78-foot) yacht built in 1965 by Dutch shipbuilder Feadship, was a “pretty great choice” by the pop star, Koenig told FOX Business.

“So, not only was this boat built by Feadship, it was designed by a guy named Carlo Riva,” Koenig said. “And Carlo Riva is a legendary boat designer.”

Koenig compared owning a Caravelle to “owning an old Porsche 911 also designed by Enzo Ferrari.”

While many modern yachts have ballooned in size — such as Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’ 417-foot sailing yacht — Koenig said Perry’s boat stands out for its more modest dimensions.

“I would compare these huge 300-foot watches that you see out there today to being like a big, big gold Rolex, and the Katie Boat is like a very thin Patek Philippe watch with a leather strap that slides right under the cuff of a shirt,” he said.

In an Instagram post earlier this week, Koenig said he was inundated with messages asking about Perry’s boat, admitting he didn’t expect the singer to have such “great taste.”

“This is as authentic and delicious as a motor yacht can get,” he said. “I know. I was surprised too.”

Perry and Trudeau were reportedly spotted on the Caravelle ship off the coast of Santa Barbara last week, where they looked warm and affectionate. In one of the photos, the former Canadian leader kisses the singer on the cheek and pulls her close to her for a hug.
