Marriott’s CEO spoke out about DEI. The next day, he had 40,000 emails from his associates


Marriott International has one of the largest works – and its happiest – in the world.
The company is proud of more than 800,000 partners in its hotels and resorts around the world. Many of the company’s success is driven by driving confidence – including former president Bill Marriott, current President David S. Marriott, CEO Anthony Capuano.
In an interview at The Great Place to work with all the summit in Las Vegas with the CEO of the organization, Michael Bush, Cabuano talked about a modern crossroads – and how he responded.
The driving event hosted thousands of executives from more than 800 companies – and many of them appeared on the best Fortune 100 companies to work on the list.
While Marriott leaders have publicly said they aspire to be a leader in diversity, fairness and integration (Dei) in recent years, President Donald Trump’s orders and policies against initiatives have given their plans to uncertainty.
New policies can lead to changes in employment, promotions and training. Failure to comply may lead to cuts in these federal financing of these private sector companies, although the legitimacy of these changes is still under discussion.
Marriott CEO speaks
After Trump announced comprehensive changes on Dei in January, many executives and companies have left ataxia.
Capuano says he met the team of executive leadership in Betsda, Maryland, where they decided to take a week for research and treatment before meeting again. Then the CEO flew to Los Angeles to get the two American investment summit. While he was there, he was immersed about Marriott’s approach to Dei in the future.
Instead of silence, Capuano recalled many talks with his teacher and former president Bill Marriott, and decided to speak.
“The wind blows, but there are some basic facts for those 98 years old,” said Capuano. “We all welcome our hotels and create opportunities for everyone – and they will not change mainly. Words may change, but this is what we are as a company.”
Capuano says he returned to his hotel that night in the hope that he would say the right thing.
The Capuano message was simple, but it did not pass without anyone noticing it by colleagues. He was drowned on how his employees responded.
“Within 24 hours, I had 40,000 e -mail from Marriott Associated around the world, saying” Thank you. “Many expressed their appreciation to work for a company whose values are in line with.
Marriott is one of the best companies in Fortune for which it works and that adheres to the DEI policies at the present time. Others in the list include Delta and Cisco.
